Unexpectedly, without packing in advance, I ended up spending the night in Edgewater, a city I was unfamiliar with. This sudden change of plans ended up being a blessing in disguise, all because I was able to visit Rock and Root tea/kava house and meet the owner, Duke.
Whenever I am new to a town, I simply type kava into my Apple Maps search bar and visit the bar closest to me. It was only after visiting this first bar, did I learn that a brand new kava bar had opened up in Edgewater proper. Equipped with that information, I did some digging on Google which led me to the nondescript strip mall that Rock and Root was located in.
Upon entering, it was apparent that Rock and Root was still in the process of reaching its final form, something that might resemble the no way in hell he could afford this in real life, “cool stoner guys” loft in a 90’s sitcom. While the completion of the interior is something to look forward to, meeting Duke, the owner of the bar, is what made my first visit memorable.
Over the course of two and half hours, Duke and I shared some shells, his own recipe he’s developed over time, and of course, some really excellent, powerful tea. While the drinks were great and definitely a reason to return, it was getting to know Duke, one of the most energetic and passionate people I have met in a long time.
Rock and Root is the embodiment of what the kava community means to me. I moved back to Orlando at the beginning of last year and a town I had grew up in, was now unfamiliar to me. Since my move back to town, the kava community has allowed me to make real, lasting friendships with awesome people I wouldn’t have met if it weren’t for the communal nature of the meditative tea
I could have not tasted a single drink at Rock and Root and I still would have predicted that this place will be around for a long time. It could be your first time ever at a kava bar, or it could be the third one you visited that day, but either way, Duke will be there to craft a unique experience that will keep you...

From the moment you walk in, you'll feel his infectious energy. Duke is genuinely one of the most positive and happiest people I've ever met – his good vibes are truly contagious. Beyond his fantastic personality, he's incredibly knowledgeable about both Kava and Kratom. He takes the time to answer questions, explain the different strains, and ensure you have the best experience possible.
The bar itself has a great atmosphere, perfect for relaxing or socializing. Whether you're a seasoned kava connoisseur or curious to try it for the first time, this new spot is a must-visit. You'll come for the kava, but you'll definitely stay for the amazing company and the unparalleled positive energy that Duke brings to the space. Highly recommend...
