Had not been there in a while and stopped in for a Ruben sandwich (which was previously pretty good). However they trashed the old menu and only had chicken or beef tacos, nachos and quesadia. The quesadia was OK and the beef tacos were a disaster. They start with a cold tortilla and then place a cold pico de gallo on it with lettuce, some grated cheese and the ground beef. You got it. And the pico seemed seriously lacking in Serrano's. When you pick it up it just falls apart. In my opinion a real taco shell is fried in oil. As for the pico it should come on the side. They also give you a side of salsa that has been put through the blender. Its a waste as you only need one or the other or adds some chips. It seems now that anyone or anyplace can serve hard liquor has pushed good bar food over the edge. In this case they plan on getting rid of the kitchen and bringing in a food truck. Which is fine if they are there all the time and which I doubt seriously will be the case.. If your quest is just to get a buzz and blowout your eardrums, this certainly fits the bill and I would say is fine. Unfortunately I was interested in some good food and will not...
Read moreI stopped by Rock Canyon last night to watch my boyfriend's band. Of course the music was great and the overall energy of the crowd was amazing! But I was particularly impressed with the staff. By the time I got there, the place was already packed and the gentlemen who work there took our drink orders right away and showed my friends and I to an area where there was standing room so we could enjoy the music. Eventually another group left and when their table opened up, the staff came to offer us that table and make sure there were enough chairs for all of us. I've been to a lot of events that feel like a total free-for-all, so it was very cool that the staff were so organized, thoughtful and kind. Also despite being super busy, they checked up on us regularly and kept our glasses full (I had the watermelon cider and it was delicious!) I can't wait to go back to this spot and I highly recommend it to anyone in Albuquerque or the East Mountains:) definitely worth checking out for cool art, great music, tasty drinks, friendly environment and...
Read moreRock Canyon Cider is a somewhat hidden gem. Meaning it is very easy to drive by the location without realizing it. Their ciders are on the tart side contrary to most hard ciders offered from other local breweries. Rock Canyon Cider has a friendly atmosphere and willing to acknowledge new customers and inconsistent regulars along with the regulars. Sadly their kitchen is closed but I do understand why after I asked about it. We visit this establishment once in a while and walk out happy to visit them. They have a co-op serving local breweries such as Lizard Tail and Sierra Blanca along with their inhouse cider brews. Give Rock Canyon Cider a chance and you might be...
