Updated Review: 8 months after previous visit, my wife insisted on giving them another try and there was a huge improvement. It's June and the restaurant was well air conditioned. Plus it wasn't smoky at all and my wife who's on oxygen was able to breathe fine this visit. The staff were friendly and polite and even held the door open for us when entering. Our waitress was very nice and kept checking on us. Our food was fresh and tasted great. It was a huge improvement from our previous visit where that review is below this one. OLD REVIEW: If you love to eat indoors but with an outdoors style environment where you are sweating like it's July and your food is covered in flies then this is the place for you. Enable to try and sale frozen drinks they raise the restaurant temperature high enough to cause you to sweat and when seating a party of three, only provide two food menus and one drink menu. So one person is stuck looking at a drink menu while waiting for another person to finish figuring out what they want to eat before they can even look at a menu. Oh and the food menu is a combination of a clipboard mounted onto a wood cutting board that any time you attempt to even turn the page it comes loose since the three ring binder components are worn out. The flies are so bad that I've had less flies touch my food while at a company picnic. Then insult to injury was when a manager lady stopped by the table and asked if everything was okay and tasted good. My wife mentioned the flies and the manager stated that they have no control over the flies and walked off. Yet you have to enter through two separate doors to even access the dinning area and out of all the other restaurants in Edmond, this restaurant is the only restaurant with a major fly problem. And I'm not talking about one or two flies either, one or two flies can be an expected dinner guest during warmer months. With the amount of flies we dealt with I'm afraid to even know what the fly situation is in the kitchen. Oh but it gets better, that same manager lady tried to claim they were giving us our appetizer for free because of the flies. When really we had already applied a coupon/rewards card that was shown at the start of the visit that gave us a free appetizer after purchasing two entrees. Also their booths are shorter then any restaurant I've personally been to. Two adults on the same side can expect to be elbowing one another the entire meal. If the restaurant wasn't so expensive I wouldn't have expected a better experience. But when 90% of the menu is $17 and above for standard Mexican cuisine in a town where the same dish runs anywhere from $10 to $14, you have to wonder what you are really paying for if your overall experience is going to be poor. Even the chips and queso portion was so small that there were no more chips after 2 to 3 minutes with just two people eating them. Then the waitress didn't want to bring us more chips when we requested more chips. So we had to keep asking just to get a second small basket of chips. Lastly the ventilation is poor and when there is a dinner rush, the place gets pretty smoky from fajitas and the kitchen. So if you have asthma or other respiratory issues like my wife does, requiring an oxygen tank to stay alive. Don't expect to be able to breathe. My wife loves dining at Mexican restaurants here in Edmond and no other restaurant has she had to rush out the door in a panic enable to try and just catch her breath.

I'm a huge fan of Mexican food & when I moved to Edmond I knew I had to venture out & find something good. I won't mention the first place... but it was disappointing even though it somehow has a higher rating. So I went to the 2nd closest to my house, hoping for a more authentic meal. The sad thing is, it was so good, I've only ventured out to 1 other place & it's because it was a late night & Hidalgo's was closed!! I'm leaving a 5* review, even though there have been some consistency problems. When I say that, I mean that my first meal was maybe the best, but also the best of all the Mexican food I've had in my life (no joke) so kind of hard to top. When its not as good, I'd say it's no less than the average meal at any other Mexican restaurant I've been to. The meal was the Hidalgo's Parilla, basically all of the meats they offer, caramelized onions, jalapeños, bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, potatoes, guacamole & 2 sides. (plus cheese & sour cream, but I can't eat those...) The beef was as good as just about any steak I've had! The chicken & pork are usually good, but have been a little dry a couple times. That's actually my only complaint with the meal. I've never had a whole stick of chorizo, but it's super tasty & now my preferred way to have chorizo. The shrimp is big & delicious. I get it with 2 sides of Hidalgo's beans which are just fantastic (if you can handle spicy food!). I can't praise those beans enough!! It's a tiny bit on the expensive side, so I have that at the end of a long week, or if a friend is in town & I want to impress them with my "local" Mexican restaurant. The other dish that I've had many times are the Hidalgo's Tacos with steak on corn tortillas & 2 sides of... you guessed it! Hidalgo's beans. Sometimes I'm able to have leftovers... but many times I wolf all 3 tacos down & practically lick the plate. My parents came in & got the sampler platter... they weren't impressed but I should have told them to get an actual meal. Apparently, the beer's they ordered were too big!! I like trying menu "Specialties" & another time I got the Ceviche a la Parrilla... unfortunately it wasn't exactly ceviche, in my opinion. It's supposed to be cooked by the citrus, but it was cooked & then they added the citrus to the top. Maybe I'm just a purist, but that did not work for me. I'm on a gluten / dairy free diet to treat my MS, so my restaurant options are pretty limited. I'm so happy to have found multiple meals that I can not only just eat, but get very excited to eat! It makes my life just that much better. I am jealous of everyone getting to try the flower tortillas... they are made in house & look delicious. The salsa is great, the special "hot" salsa they make is very tasty & the staff is very friendly. Even though most are not native English speakers (which is my preference) there has never been a language barrier or misunderstanding of order's. If anything, it just makes the experience better. The manager, Mila, has personally asked me how my meal is at least 20% of the time! Fortunately, I always get to tell her it's fantastic!! If you somehow haven't tried Hidalgo's yet, get your keys, start your car & have yourself a fantastic meal!!

The bell peppers and onions were charred just right, adding a smoky depth. 🌶️🧅 Paired with fluffy tortillas, fresh guac 🥑, and their zesty salsa, every bite was a fiesta in my mouth! 🎉

🍹 Drinks That Hit the Spot! 🍹

Of course, no Mexican feast is complete without a drink! I opted for their house margarita, which came loaded with fresh fruit, a salted rim, and just the right kick of tequila. 🍋🍒💃 Whether you like yours sweet, spicy, or extra strong, they’ve got options to satisfy every margarita lover! 🍸

🎭 The Vibe – Fun, Lively & Full of Flavor!

Hidalgo’s is warm, colorful, and inviting, perfect for a night out with friends or a casual dinner with family. 💃🎶 The staff? Top-tier hospitality! Friendly, quick, and always making sure your glass stays full. 🏆

💡 PRO TIP: If you’re indecisive (or just love variety), try their Margarita Flight 🍹🍹🍹 – three mini margaritas, so you don’t have to pick just one! 😏

⭐️ Final Verdict: A Must-Visit! ⭐️

From the flavor-packed fajitas to the refreshing drinks and upbeat atmosphere, Hidalgo’s is a Mexican food WIN in Edmond! 🏆💯 I’ll definitely be back to try their other menu items – that Guava-Rita is calling my name! 🌿🍍
