I went this morning at 7:45 am (after dropping my dog off at the vet) to get fresh hot Spudnuts. I asked for 3 plain and 1 Chocolate. When I got to my car to take a “hot” plain Spudnut out of bag to enjoy with my hot Coffee, to my surprise the plain donuts were stone cold!!! You would think that they would have been “hot”! This past Friday morning I had gone to town to do errands and stopped by The Spudnut Shoppe at 9 am and I bought 4 plain (& 2 chocolate that were barely warm but tasted very freshly made) Spudnuts that were HOT and remained hot while I was going through the car wash and still warm when I got home to Smackover. When I bought Spudnuts this past Friday at 9 am, The Spudnut Shoppe was still frying up fresh donuts while I was leaving (after receiving my HOT donuts! Why were the donuts not hot or even warm this Tuesday morning (today) at 7:45 am when this past Friday at 9 am they were HOT and the cook was frying up more but not this morning?! Does not make sense. Wondering if the donuts this morning were fresh? They did not taste fresh to me! Leftovers from yesterday?! The chocolate Spudnut I got Friday was fresh & tasted fresh even though it was barely warm but not stone cold. The chocolate Spudnut I got today was stone cold like the 3 plain ones and did not taste fresh at all. I got my money back for the 3 plain ones because I did not expect the Chocolate glazed to be hot (since the chocolate have would melted) but I did expect the plain ones to be fresh and just even warm but sadly they were not!!! Very disappointed! I can go to Shipley’s Donuts to...
Read moreThe new owners are going to run this institution into the ground. My sister in law, my husband and I drove from Camden one morning to get some spudnuts. We arrived one hour before they were set to close. There was no warm smells, no trays of spudnuts cooling, just some donut holes and some old cinnamon rolls on one rack. We were then told that was all they had left. It was an hour to close and they were done cooking. Let me explain. The man that used to own the business never turned down a customer. This is no chain donut eatery, this place has the equipment and the worker's there to make fresh product. Not wanting to deprive the man and little girl who walked in behind us, we got 6 holes and 3 cinnamon roles. The man behind me approaches the woman behind the counter and tells her of a friend returning to El Dorado after years of being away, and the only thing that friend wanted was spudnuts from this legendary place. Apparently this man was under the same impression that when a place was still open for another hour that it would make customers fresh spudnuts. But unlike us, he left empty handed, not willing to purchase the pitiful cold leftover offering. If the new owner keeps this up, Eldorado will no longer have this...
Read moreLocals love this place, including myself. Its far from any other restaurant and in a residential area, but their donuts are far better than any other place I have tried in my LIFE. When speaking to someone from El Dorado, you mention SpudNuts, and they will stand a little taller, as locals are very proud of this place. Its almost funny. We pride ourselves more on this donut place than almost anything else. Place is OLD, Interior of this place makes you feel as if they opened in 1940 and haven't touched the place since. The atmosphere is horrible, yet every morning, there is a line...
