Flo's Coffee Shop — Restaurant in El Monte

The outside look made us hesitate but a friend suggested to go there because he knew the place. It is really disappointing that the owners like to have the interior dark, even when they have big windows they keep the blinds closed. No air conditioning either (at least it was off). The food has no flavor at all and the worse is that all the food we ordered was horrible! Tasted like old ingredients put together. Huevos Rancheros with no ranchero sauce, instead they poured something like refrigerated chips sauce on top. Every bite tasted like food on water. The same thing happened with steak ranchero and chilaquiles, the potatoes were undercooked and not seasoned..The food is just disgusting. We had to take some alka-seltzers as soon as we arrived home. Definitely not a place to go. I do not recommend any food at all. I read some of the good 5 stars reviews and I do not understand how they can describe a good culinary experience! Great hole in the wall breakfast joint. I would say skip Denny's or Ihop and grab some food that Isn't chucked out of the kitchen like some soulless factory. If you're around Saturday or Sunday their menudo is great. A small plate is just under $6 and it was enough and delicious. Next, try their country fried steak with a side of tater tots and a biscuit and gravy. I really don't care for biscuits but I love to dip my tater tots in the gravy and its gooood with 4 o's. If your just in the mood for some traditional eggs, sausage, bacon, hash-brown, and pancakes then this place won't let you down. Finally just wanted to add that its one of those places that has been there forever, or at least it seems like that. You'll see the walls covered in pictures of El Monte from the early 1900's. When we arrived we waited around 10 minutes. Inside is a cozy little place and it was actually full for a weekday morning (I think). Our waitress kept repeating our order with items we did not even mention/ order. When our food arrived to the table some items where a little on the overcooked/ burned side. The waitress seemed like she changed our order and when I asked she was super rude. Not to mention she didn't bring half the stuff I ordered and gave me something totally different. But it seems like she was doing it to other customers too (we overheard complaints). The food was ok, but a little to pricey for what we received. To make matters worse ugghhh the waitress was trying to charge me for items I never received and duplicates of same items! I came as a group, but once is...
