I really wanted to love this bakery. I had asked for a recommendation from friends on where to go for a great tasting cake in the Far East area of El Paso, and Greggerson's Cake Cottage came up. I ordered a 9 inch round cake, decorated like a rosebud. Having worked at an upscale bakery for almost 4 years, while in school, I was surprised to hear that Greggerson's does not deal with whipped cream at all. As the gentleman taking my order added, "We're known for our buttercream icing". I thought, "Okay, if they are famous for their buttercream icing, I trust it will be wonderful". Upon pick up, the cake was absolutely beautiful - couldn't wait to taste it. The cake was kept in a walk-in fridge at the venue were we had the party, and when it was time to serve it, many of us were disappointed. The cake was 2 thick layers. I selected 1 chocolate layer and 1 vanilla layer, with Bavarian cream filling. The cake was so thick and the filling so thin, that it just came across as extremely dry. Furthermore, it crumbled as we were serving each piece - there was just no moisture at all to keep it together. The "famous icing" was not something that should be touted. It had a strong aroma and flavor that was not your typical vanilla buttercream. It was heavy in the flavor of almond extract. Most of the guests (18 people) scraped off the icing as the flavor was simply not good. The price point for the cake was right on, though. I paid $43 for a custom decorated cake. I thought I was getting a deal as a cake like that would easily be double in Southern California bakeries. I think the work it took to make it beautiful was worth $43, but the cake flavor itself was just bad. All you could taste was almond extract and most of us asked for drink refills at the same time because the...
Read moreUpon receiving my order for a heart-shaped cake with vintage piping, I was disappointed to find only a simple drop line and a rosette when I picked it up. The cake was also not decorated as requested, and the lowercase âsâ in âM.S. Engineerâ was missing. When I informed the establishment of these errors, they informed me that their only cake decorator was unavailable. They offered to convert the lowercase âsâ to an uppercase âS,â which took 45 minutes. As I was graduating that day, I could not wait any longer, as I risked missing the ceremony. I explained that I would try to find someone to pick up the cake for me since it was not ready at the pick up time 1p.m. I was advised to ensure that the cake was picked up before 3 p.m. I had also requested pink frosting on the sides, but only a small amount was applied on the top, resulting in an unintended tie-dye effect. This oversight nearly caused me to miss my graduation. The establishmentâs failure to create the order as agreed upon was unacceptable. The owner offered only a $5 refund, which was insufficient for the cost, time and expense for such a significant event. As a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of my accomplishment, the establishment should have communicated with me when placing the order that they were unable to...
Read moreMy family has been buying cakes from Greggerson's for decades, my parents wedding cake was ordered from the original owner and made in her home on alameda. Sadly since COVID, the customer service has suffered. I was yelled at by the lady behind the counter to get out of the store since there were already two people in there. How was I supposed to know that there were two people in there if I did not open the door??? I understand the social distancing concern but to be yelled at twice was not only humiliating but uncalled for. They can ask politely. I then waited in line for ten minutes while the delivery guys went in and out .To make matters worse the gentleman behind the counter was not any nicer nor did he have a matching cake topper for the cake I bought and there was no one there to write happy birthday on it. It doesn't matter to me if they have the best cake in El Paso I will no longer on any...
