I'd give this place 5 stars for service alone, even if their food wasn't delicious... And it is delicious.
Long story short: they made a mistake (it happens) and I've never seen any business go so far to make things right.
The details: I called ahead and ordered a dozen tamales. They told me the price, and not knowing how much they usually go for or their menu price, it sounded ok. Got there, paid, got my tamales and left. Nice service, really friendly, pretty darned quick.
When I get home, my wife looks at the receipt and realizes I've been charged about twice as much as I should have. She calls to complain, they offer a refund of the difference or another dozen tamales. Turns out, it was a new guy, and he gave me the price for something else.
So I go back, and it takes a few minutes for the next dozen tamales. While I'm waiting, they offered me a drink, on the house. Then they bring me a bowl of soup.
It was taking a little longer than they expected to get my second dozen tamales ready, so the guy throws in some Mexican sweets. Then he fills up a big cup of (very good) caldo. Then he fills a bag with tostadas. Asks if I like queso, gives me a big cup of it. Keeps finding more things to add, doesn't charge me a dime. By the time my tamales were ready (which wasn't that long, anyway) I had three bags full of food, including 18 tamales.
They were so generous, I almost felt guilty. We ate like kings that night, and the next day, and still had leftovers.
Mistakes happen everywhere, so judging a place by one mistake is silly. However, you can pretty well judge a place by what they do about it.
Update: I still love this place. There's a few fantastic places to eat in the Northeast, and this is one of them.
They also serve their entire menu all day, so I can order their very generous pork chops and eggs whenever I want. Seriously, today I had to get a second plate to hold the second...
Read moreI hadn't been in since they expanded and semi remodeled.
Went in about a week and a half ago, got pancakes, sausage, hash browns, and a few other things. It all seemed prepared OK and tasted fine.
A few hours later, both myself, my wife, and our son got sick. We hadn't eaten anything else up until this point. We ended up at the hospital off Loop 375 and were told we had food poisoning.
I'd actually heard from an older lady who used to frequent the place, and stopped going when she got sick, that she'd been told by one of the former kitchen staff that they cut a lot of corners there and sometimes used meat that was left out and not refrigerated for up to 2-3 hours.
Nonetheless it was advised we contact the health department which we've done. I also tried calling the restaurant twice (once on a Monday which I've come to learn they are not open on) and again on December 18th at 10:19 AM.
We are out of town for the holidays so I may stop in to discuss, but if the guy who I think is the owner is in fact the owner, I'm not expecting any level of professionalism anyhow.
I get costs are going up, but using potentially expired ingredients can make people sick, or possibly kill them.
Shame, this place was the tits when I last went...
Read moreToday may 14 I decided to get a small nice and fun day with my husband. We tough about Chinese and Japanese food but, we decided to go to the Mexican restaurant. Called luci’s cafe. I went one day before inside because I tough during the pandemic those restaurants were closed but, I got surprises that there were a restaurant opened. Then I decided to come to eat and we order. Torta de sirloin, machos deluxe, enchiladas, flautas, gorditas, tamales! coffee and horchata. I was wondering the food was going to be amazing because the restaurant looks clean inside. Was not joyful, amazing, and delicious as I aspected. We payed almost 50 dollars for all of the above mentioned. Also they don’t have card system they charged you 1.8 dollars for you to pay with card. The waitress was very efficient and nice. The horchata good the coffee fine. But the food needs a lot of work and effort to get deliciousness. I’m going to give a chance to me to come back for a one meal only to see if they can develop a better taste for the consumers and be happy with...
