If this was based entirely on food, I would have given them 4.5 stars but added to service, I have to downgrade them to 3.5 stars. First of all, when we were ordering, the person taking our order was having a hard time hearing me. So after trying to raise my voice through my mask and her still not hearing me, I lowered my mask for a few seconds, turned my head away from her, and tried to order. She asked me to put up my mask again which I did but then proceeded to ask me for our order again, which she got wrong and had to be corrected. With a giant menu display beside the customer at the register, she could have simply asked me to point towards what we wanted or otherwise figured out a better way to order (maybe turn down the music a little?). We were given one of those 'pager' and decided to sit outside only as you can see from the photos, of the unoccupied tables that could fit 3 people, they were all full of dirty plates. We found one table without plates but it was filthy. I went inside to find the staff in charge of cleaning hanging out talking to each other which by itself is fine. The only person who seemed to be customer facing had an open bottle of cleanser out on the table beside where the food would be picked up when your buzzer rings. I asked if they had any wipes or anything and rather than ask if she could ask one of the staff to go to our table and clean she said, she didn't have wipes but could give me some cleanser. So she puts the cleanser on some paper towels and I end up having to clean the table myself. I don't know if she assumed that because we had a child with us that maybe it was for a spill caused by us but we didn't even have our food yet and there were plenty of staff whom she could have asked to clean up since I would hope there are some cleaning/disinfecting protocols they have. Anyway, it took a lot longer than it should have to get our food because again, it wasn't crowded any longer as it was 2:15 pm on a Tuesday. The food was good but honestly I was hungry from waiting so long and still a little skeeved at having to clean old fried fish bits from our table. Needless to say, I hope I was an outlier customer but I have no need/desire to ever return to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI came to this restaurant yesterday 12/15/2018 and ordered tilapia with mixed sauce with rice and zucchini. Also I had a side of clam chowder. I inform the manager on duty I have a salmon allergy so please prepare my fish separate from the salmon. He said No Problem we will clean an area on the grill to ensure your fish is allergy free. My food was amazing just like I imagined.
Today I revisited the restaurant with my family to place a to go order. I placed a order of exact same meal with a basket of grilled shrimp with mixed sauce and a bowl of chowder. I also ordered a Asian shrimp salad with zucchini on the side. I informed the lady (Olivia) on the register again of the salmon allergy and she to the cook and the stated they would clean the grill. Finally my buzzer rings and I approached the counter to retrieve my food and the Manager Irvin Rodriguez took my tilapia plate out of the bag and said I could not have the food because I have a Salmon Allergy. I explained to the manager that I was just here yesterday and the process the prior manager did. He said yeah what he did was wrong. Even Olivia on the register told him I had the same thing yesterday and I ate it there but still he said NO!
This is completely unbelievable and I am highly disappointed in this location especially being that I have never had a problem. It is unheard of for someone not being able to eat fish period at a seafood restaurant because they have a allergy to only one fish. I asked him to refund my whole order immediately because I could not believe what was happening.
I am currently pregnant and this by far is the best thing on the menu for me. And I traveled passed he fox hills location to come here because I love the quality. The service I received today was completely unacceptable and it has NO CONSISTENCY. Irvin seriously needs some retraining or need to realize this is NOT THE PROFESSION FOR HIM.
Sincerely a Very...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at California Fish Grill in El Segundo, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. From the moment we walked in, the clean and inviting atmosphere set the stage for a wonderful meal.
The menu offered a fantastic selection of seafood options, and we opted for the dynamite shrimp and salmon plate. The shrimp had a perfect balance of flavors, with just the right amount of heat from the dynamite sauce. The salmon was cooked to perfection, moist and flavorful.
Although the restaurant had undergone some changes since my last visit, they were overall positive. The introduction of self-ordering kiosks added a modern touch to the dining experience. The limited staff was incredibly helpful, guiding us through the ordering process and ensuring that everything was to our liking.
While I did miss the salsa bar, which unfortunately is no longer available, the quality of the food made up for it. The flavors were still fantastic, and the dishes were expertly prepared. It's always a pleasure to see a restaurant adapting to the times while maintaining the high standards they are known for.
One minor change that caught my attention was the availability of wine. Previously, they had wine by the glass, but now they only offer bottles. Although it's a departure from what I was accustomed to, the bottle of wine we selected complemented our meal perfectly, and we thoroughly enjoyed the two glasses worth.
Overall, my experience at California Fish Grill in El Segundo was fantastic. The dynamite shrimp and salmon plate were outstanding, the restaurant was clean and inviting, and the limited staff provided excellent service. While some changes had taken place, such as the self-ordering kiosks and the removal of the salsa bar, the quality of the food remained top-notch. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone craving delicious seafood in a...
