The Belamar dates from 1962 and underwent some degree of renovation in 2008. At this point the hotel is showing its age, particularly with the plumbing. We stayed in one of the suites on the third floor and the Jacuzzi tub would not hold water for a bath due to the stopper mechanism being broken. The toilet was one of those old 5 gallon jobs with a tendency to get stuck requiring the user to "jiggle" the handle to get it to stop. It was so noisy you had to yell over it! That kind of stuff in a $350/night hotel is inexcusable. All of the plumbing in that hotel should be gone through and brought up to code as a matter of civic responsibility to say nothing of guest value. Getting past the abysmal plumbing, the room itself was okay, if dated and a bit shopworn. The bed was great, very comfortable with nice sheets and inviting pillows. Each room has a Keurig and the staff was more than gracious getting us the extra pods we needed for a multi-night stay. The bar was just great. Friendly bartenders who knew how to make a great martini and turn out other splendid drinks as well. In fact, every single hotel employee we encountered was nothing but helpful and accommodating. We loved the people there. The food? Well, we only ate one meal there, breakfast on our first morning there. I will show you a picture. The only potatoes they serve are Tater Tots! Tater Tots are for kids meals, not for a $50 breakfast at a $375/night hotel. So to whoever it is that owns this hotel and is raking in the coin while serving his customers Tater Tot breakfasts and flushing 5 gallons of water down to the ocean every time someone yanks the handle, you got yourself a great racket!

I’ve stayed at this hotel several times in the past and always appreciated the option to self-park, which was clearly advertised on their website when I booked my most recent stay. However, Cindy- who works the front desk- yelled at me and told me that valet parking was required, with no self-parking option available — something that was not disclosed at the time of booking or in my confirmation. When I calmly explained that I had self-parked during previous visits, Cindy was EXTREMELY rude and dismissive. No explanation, no apology — just attitude. That kind of treatment from front desk staff is completely unacceptable, especially when a guest is simply trying to clarify a policy. One of the main reasons I did not want to use valet is that there was a strong smell of marijuana in the valet area, and I did not feel comfortable handing over my keys in that environment. I expected a higher level of professionalism from a hotel of this caliber. This kind of misleading tactic — advertising one service and forcing guests into another — is not only bad business, but may violate FTC consumer protection rules regarding misleading and deceptive practices. I’m currently considering filing a complaint. Until this is addressed and corrected, I cannot recommend this hotel. At the very least, management should update their website and booking info to reflect the actual parking situation and ensure staff (Cindy) treat guests with basic respect.

We stayed at The Belamar Hotel Manhattan Beach to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and left with mixed feelings.||On the positive side, the hotel itself is stylish and unique, with a cool vinyl record player in the rooms and a nice atmosphere. Our room was clean, comfortable, and slightly larger than the average hotel room. The bed was great, the TV was a good size, and overall it was quiet and relaxing.||Unfortunately, the overall experience left much to be desired. As a Hilton Gold member, I often receive complimentary upgrades when available, and this hotel lists upgrades as a benefit. A day before arrival, I received an email offering an upgrade to a suite if I paid. Just before arriving, I clicked again and the suite was still available. However, when I asked at check-in, I was curtly told no complimentary upgrades were available. The tone was short, bordering on rude, and there was no acknowledgment of my Hilton status or, more importantly, the note on our reservation that we were celebrating our 25th anniversary.||What made it worse was later learning via text from hotel staff that “all guests are offered upgrades if available,” regardless of Hilton status, which completely defeats the point of loyalty. Even more frustrating, they implied that because I didn’t “reach out” (despite leaving a note on the reservation), they had no idea we were celebrating a milestone occasion. That’s simply untrue.||Then there was the so-called “garden view” room. Instead of a lush view, it overlooked a side path, the door to the pool area, and other rooms. Not exactly what one expects from that description (photos attached). ||Personally this is like Delta fraudulently selling window seats that don’t have a window this was 100% not a garden view and they know it yet sell it as an upgrade. Cute looking hotel with terrible execution. We arrived at 7:30 pm after our amazing Friday morning wedding expecting our hotel room to be ready for us. We had a reservation booked three months in advance and my husband even called the day of our wedding to confirm our reservation for that night over. My husband mentioned that it was our wedding night and asked them what amenities were available. They offered us an amenity of champagne and strawberries for $50 and said it would be placed in our room at 7pm (they didn’t offer to comp anything). When we arrived to check-in, Alex at the front desk said he didn’t see our name on the computer and asked us if we had a reservation. He clicked around on the computer for another 10-15 mins, without saying anything. Four people next to us checked in and went off to our room before we asked what was going on. He finally assured us that they had a room for us and to just wait. At this time there was no mention of our requested amenity. We self-parked our car (BMW M4) in the valet lot and gave our keys to the attendant as they requested. We finally arrived at our hotel room (8PM) and after a few minutes we got a very loud phone call from the valet stating that they reparked our car and that they couldn’t figure out how to park it and turn the lights off. My husband explained over the phone exactly what to do. 15 minutes another phone call!!! At this point it was 8:30pm on our wedding night. They still couldn’t park the car and demanded that my husband come downstairs to show them how to turn the lights off. This is a very Googleable question... but instead they pestered us about it. He agreed to go downstairs to show the “valet” how to park our car. On the way back to the hotel, he mentioned to the front desk not to bring us our requested $50 amenity as we did not want any further interruptions (they acknowledged that they knew we ordered an amenity, then I made it clear we did not want to be interrupted by them delivering it at some unknown hour). This might’ve been the only issue however this morning my mom texted and asked how our first night was and asked if we had received the gift she prepared for us? I said no. She had brought a gift basket to the hotel for us of champagne, coconut water, nuts, chocolate, banana. Needless to say, we did not hear about this or receive it during our stay. This was extremely disappointing as my mom drove to Manhattan from Redondo Beach before our wedding specifically to drop this gift for us and Belamar Hotel completely dropped the ball in every aspect. As a South Bay local this is extremely disappointing to see a local business with such poor service and attention to detail. My best friend recently got married and had the same experience when a gift was delivered to the hotel for her and failed to make it to her room by Belamar staff. I called the hotel at 9AM to try to resolve this with the hotel manager and he was unavailable to take my call. I left a voicemail with my concern and contact info. We’re moving on the with the rest of our honeymoon travel plans, and will not be recommending...

Cozy, comfy boutique hotel with wonderful staff! I really enjoyed my stay here and would return. It was so quaint and cozy and hip just like the cute little beach town it represents. I made travel plans too late to stay right on the beach, but this was the next best thing. I actually ended up being glad it was a mile from the beach, because I enjoyed my little walk, run, ride to the beach every day so much. There is a beautiful mulch trail that takes you right to the beach and the sidewalk is delightful as well, to better see all the cute, quaint beach houses. The rooms were bright, beautiful and very nicely furnished. For once a hotel lived up to the pictures on the website. I usually have the opposite experience. I thought the beds and pillows were so comfy/cozy. It was like sleeping on a cloud. Bathrooms were nice, marble counters with plenty of towels and toiletries. Cute little extras like record players in the rooms and beach bicycles for rent. The front desk staff was so nice and welcoming (especially Adrienne and also the valet man who was there when we got there. I wish I remembered his name.) We had a horrible car rental experience so when we got there were a bit frazzled, and I swear the staff washed it all away with their friendliness. Adrienne was even able to get us into our room a few hours early which was such a relief. It was very quiet. No complaints about thin walls or noisy halls when you are trying to sleep. The only reason I did not give 5 stars were just little small things that were not deal breakers...I called ahead of time to ask about the price of bicycle rental and they said $15 for 1/2 a day and $30 for full day. I also reconfirmed that when I checked in. When we actually went to rent the bikes, he said it was $15 for 2 hours and $30 for anything over two hours. (2 hours is not half a day in my book, but I guess I should have asked more specifically) We ended up keeping them over the 4 hours, since it didn't matter in price at that point for the "full day". We enjoyed riding them to the beach and on the nice beach walkway that goes for miles. There were also some tiny little "ghost ants" in the room. They aren't the kind that stings and we didn't have food around, so we didn't bother telling the staff, as we didn't want them to spray while we were there. I forgot to tell them when checking out though. The record player was a cute touch but the vinyl selection was not great and I could never get the record player to work anyway, but again, it wasn't a big deal...it was a cute idea, though. I did not get a chance to try the restaurant, but it looked really nice. We did try to order a cappuccino but the machine was broken. All of the negative things were not that big of a deal and were not enough to take away from the stay there. I would definitely stay in the future and recommend it to others. Thank you for making it an enjoyable stay and for hiring nice people. That seems more...
