The Bar - Handrolls by Seabutter (El Segundo) — Restaurant in El Segundo

HandRolls by Seabutter in El Segundo is redefining the sushi experience in the South Bay. Kristina and I are used to ordering classics like California rolls, spicy tuna, dragon rolls, and specialty options like the KG Roll (which isn’t even publicly released yet) at Dashi or Japonica. But Seabutter focuses mainly on HandRolls, which offers a unique twist. The only catch is, since you’re not sharing a single roll, it can get messy—biting into the same handroll isn’t the easiest.

It was our first night there, and the bar was full—with just 15 seats, it was packed 30 minutes before closing. We put our name on the waitlist and, while waiting, grabbed a GOOP pizza (next door) just in case we got hungry later. When our seats were ready, we ordered the 5-piece HandRoll set for $35. We planned to share, but they serve the rolls one at a time, so if you’re on a date, it’s best to order two sets so you can eat together. The rolls are delicious, though smaller than traditional handrolls from your local sushi spot. They’re still ironing out some kinks, but overall, it’s definitely worth a visit. If you want sushi that’s equal parts vibe and flavor, The Bar – Handrolls by Seabutter is the place. My friends and I came for a girls’ night and they seamlessly seated all six of us at the bar, which made the whole experience feel fun and interactive. The service was spot-on and everything we ordered was absolutely drool-worthy.

I went with the Taste of the Bar and chose hot green tea and the sunomono salad with my handrolls (spicy tuna crunch, scallop, salmon truffle, and HYE). Every bite was fresh and flavorful, and the portion was just right — enough to feel satisfied but still left me wanting to...

I never write reviews, but had to for this meal! I ordered on uber eats and it was phenomenal. I got the 4 hand roll set and the hamachi jalapeño. I’m always weary ordering sushi for delivery, but they really did a good job and the fish was fresh. I love ordering yellowtail jalapeño sashimi, and their take with the hamachi jalapeño was great! I love that the jalapeño was cut up because you get some in every bite. My boyfriend is vegan and I saw they had a vegan set of handrolls which is awesome, because it can be hard to find restaurants that cater to both of our diets. Will definitely be ordering/going...
