Willy & Grace Diner — Restaurant in Elgin

We went here for breakfast this past Sunday and it turned out to be a terrible experience. We’ve been here before and had great food maybe 3 or 4 times. This time, I ordered pancakes only. I had eaten about a quarter of the first pancake. I took a big bite of my pancake, bit down and crunch crunch! I was mortified as I thought it was at first a filling, but how could a filling come out eating a pancake? I chewed it a bit to try to get it to the front of my mouth and got some of it out and it turned out to be GLASS!! I was shocked and gave a couple pieces to my dad and went to the bathroom to rinse out my mouth as the pieces were now all over my mouth. One of the waitresses came over after I came out of the bathroom (she had already seen the glass my Dad had) and had the audacity to try and tell me that there were egg shells near where they were making my breakfast and that was probably it, and I told her there was no way it was eggshells. It wasn’t white. Then she tried to tell me, it was probably brown sugar. I looked at her like she was crazy telling her that brown sugar would’ve melted in my mouth and it was most definitely glass!! I could feel little cuts from it. She really did nothing about it, other than insulting my intelligence. There was only one waitress there that actually showed compassion as we left and was genuinely apologetic about the experience. They didn’t bother to extend any customer service and take a percentage off the bill for my Dad and my sons meal either. It was a $30+ breakfast that could’ve sent me to the ER and I didn’t even eat! It was very disappointing considering what happened and I could’ve swallowed the pieces of glass. Pretty unfortunate and we will NEVER be going back, due to their major carelessness and lack of quality control. Not to mention empathy…

**As a reply to the Business comment below, the one waitress did agree it was glass to my Dad, as it obviously was. Not to mention the last waitress that was actually genuine. And I am leaving my review of MY experience at the restaurant, which I AM allowed to do. Negative as it may be. And I don’t normally do a lot of reviews, but this experience was upsetting, especially how it was handled. And I never suggested my sons Mexican breakfast or my Dads Omelet to be free, I suggested a “percentage off,” not free. Of course we weren’t going to pay for mine… I’m just going to leave it there. I wish you all nothing...

Willy and Grace is a wonderful place to eat It like a Mom and Pop restaurant Nothing like the big restaurant Prices are not bad at all The large restaurants you paid double what you pay at Will & Grace and it comes out HOT REALLY HOT & YUMMY 🤤 You will not be disappointed Food is great servers Stephanie and Emma are great They are always asking if we need anything JUDY is the one that make sure everything is going smoothly She is wonderful great person The other waitress are great too! Willy and His brother (We think it is his brother) cook everything and he is a great cook and Willy even come out (when not busy ) and said Hi and ask how the food was We (my Husband Dan and I )said that it was hot and great food The steak was wonderful and tender We had a lot more food but it will take you a long time to read everything Everything and we mean everything is delicious 😋 This is now our favorite restaurant The only thing is they are open for breakfast and lunch only If they were open for supper we would definitely go to Willy and Grace We hope they stay small because it’s more like visiting family When they grow bigger the food and services go down the drain That would be a shame 😞 Sometimes there is a wait but it is so worth it They don’t like there customers waiting so they always find how to get you seated asap If you haven’t noticed we really really like this place Try it once I guarantee you’ll will like as much as we do Thank you for your time Thank you , Dan & Kim Prochaska P.S. (In response to the owner, I will absolutely not change my review. This was on May 3, 2023. Different wait staff, it seems. I did have black mold in my water cup and also the two following cups they brought afterwards, finally I said just bring me a Styrofoam cup. I could tell from where I sat. Right near the front in a booth, by the window, I could see the stack of cups by the counter. I went up to them and could see other cups with black spots inside them. So, your threats are no good. Do better and this review would not have happened. I have been back there, once, since this incident. Cups were clean. Food was good. Does not mean what I said happened before, didn't happen. It 100 percent did) I was here a few times. Found my glass of water had black mold in the glass. Asked for another glass..same thing. Waitress looked at it and asked if I wanted Styrofoam cups instead I said please. No other action was taking including removing the other glasses that were tainted. Food is good. But I fear the quality control is not there. Or...
