Golden Garden Restaurant — Restaurant in Elizabeth

After being told by several of my friends about how good Golden Garden was, I finally decided to give them a shot. I was not expecting too much considering that when I finally found the place, it was quite literally a hole in the wall. Really, it's less than ten feet wide. I figured with all the Chinese places in the area, how different could they be? Right? Wrong!! Golden Garden is without a doubt the best Chinese resturant since the New York Tea Garden in Morristown. Everything I ordered was delicious. Not salty, no sugar added, and no msg. The fried rice was the best I have had in years. It wasn't that nasty yellow rice served in most places around here. The fried wontons were done perfectly. The chicken lo mein, mongolian beef, chicken and broccoli, and general tso's chicken were outstanding. The staff is very polite and friendly, and appears to be a very young group. Golden Garden is my new go to place for Chinese take out. I live in the Bayway area of Elizabeth. I pass at least a dozen Chinese places to get to Golden Garden. In my opinion, Golden Garden is definately worth the trip....

This is the worst Chinese I’ve ever had in my life. My husband’s sesame chicken also tasted like the past 10 orders they’ve had (evidently a dirty cooking surface). My sweet and sour chicken was so dried out that it was literally inedible (see pictures). The rice was pretty disgusting, also tasted like whatever they cooked it on was dirty. Put it back in the bag and brought it back, I still have the horrible taste in my mouth. Inside the place you would think they’re selling flies. It’s so horrendous that we’re calling the health inspector, because we kinda care about the safety of the people around here. No idea how they’ve managed to stay in business? ...

Food is decent. My first time eating here but that's not the issue. The issue is the delivery guy. Placed and order Friday afternoon and the delivery guy tried to take the money without giving my change back. He then said it's for a tip. He was rude and facetious. It's up to the customer to give tips not the people providing the service. He really got it twisted. Other than that This would have been 5 stars but that jerk ruined it for this business. Hire people with better customer service skills cause I bet if my skin was a few shades pale this...
