Teddy's Diner — Restaurant in Elk Grove Township

We have been eating at and ordering take out from Teddy's Diner for many many years. We loved that it is local and that they had good food. Yes the portion sizes and cutbacks are noticeable as with any other restaurant but that is not why I am writing this review. The past 3 experiences haven't been pleasant. I ordered a Reuben sandwich for lunch and got home to find a hair nestled in-between the meat. I stopped eating and threw the sandwich out thinking it was just an isolated incident, so I ordered again a few weeks later. I find another hair mixed in my scrambled eggs. This time we drive back to the restaurant and explain the situation and what I assume to be the manager apologized and remade my meal himself. We order again a few weeks later and lone behold another hair... I'm done, the person who is preparing the food is losing hair in my food every time I order, I can't be the only one. The cooks or preparers need hairnets. My family won't be ordering from Teddy's Diner again. 3 strikes (in a row) your out. What other unhygienic things are going on behind...

Ordered 40 minutes ahead of time. They said they were not busy. Came in to pick up but my order was not entered. They said she made a mistake and forgot. But it has been time and again that I have experienced that a lot of local restaurants take your order over the phone but not make it until you get there, which in essence is a big waste of time. And they are too afraid to tell you upfront they do that because they are afraid you won't pay and abandon the food. It's the same as if I had ordered while in the restaurant and they don't make my food for fear of me not paying.

Over the years, they'll also sometimes forget to include the items you paid for in a take out order. They'll believe you when you get home and call and give you credit for your next visit.

Also, they don't shoo away people who smoke right in front of their doors. You can smell the cigarette smoke while eating inside. It's probably a village...

We have been coming here for YEARS & absolutely loved this place. The woman who owns it is absolutely incredible. She sits down with us, brings the kids balloons, etc. Today a man who I guess is her husband was running the place & hopefully that never happens again. We ordered Togo, they completely butchered it of course. I figured we would just get a refund (after bringing all food back, uneaten) and then we would try again another time. My wife gets all the way there and they outright tried to refuse to give a refund stating they “didn’t know how” then it was they don’t do it.. then they could only give me a gift certificate excuse after excuse. Finally after the back n forth they did it in about 2 seconds which tells me they knew how the whole time & were choosing not to. This place with the woman who owns it there is the best in the world.. second to none, but without her..it’s worse than McDonald’s....
