12 years later and I find myself craving this place since I took over a decade long hiatus -- not purposefully, just more out of sight out of mind as life changed and I moved around. Anyways, I recently started to come back to this old timer of a place this year and since then, we have had been here 5 times and will probably be back before year's end.
There is something so nostalgic and unbeatable about their shrimp wonton noodle soup. That, and the Yang Chow fried rice (sans soy sauce), the 554 rice dish with the most tender & flavorful BBQ pork you'll ever have, the tangy hot and sour soup, their fried shrimp wonton actually have chunks of shrimps you can taste, and even their chili oil is on point! (And yes, you can purchase it to go).
We come here not for the fancy ambiance but for the true authentic Chinese cuisine. I literally would go through periods of craving their Yang Chow fried rice & Shrimp Won Ton noodle soup like no other. And trust me, I have tried to find replaceable dishes, or ones that are called of the same names and nothing has compared. I simply need to go back to this place in order those exact dishes. We've already celebrated at least two family birthdays here, and I imagine there will be more to come.
On this particular visit, I ordered the 554 rice dish because I saw two people at the adjacent table to us had it on their plate and it looks so appetizing that I had to ask what it was. I took a chance, and it was worth the risk because my whole family finished it-- pretty much licked it clean. We now have another favorite dish to add to our palette's repertoire, it has become a staple of our order.
Service comes out fast for us when we visit, they were also very nice to let us cut our own cake for a birthday celebration. I asked for a knife to cut the cake, and they brought out extra plates and forks. They offer free oolong tea as well.
And the prices are reasonable here for the portions, as of 2023. We were able to feed a bigger group here for less money than when we go for Dim Sum which if they ever offer, I would need to move next door. I hope they continue to keep prices affordable and food quality high here. Fun fact, they are also a sister restaurant of Seven Treasures in Chinatown. This place has my stamp of approval and I can't believe that 12 years later I'm still...

In a simple story, Seven Treasure restaurant in Chinatown used to sell BBq pork with fried egg over rice, and the menu number was 554. It also started as $5, I started to get them when it was around $8.25, so pretty late. When they announced they would be closing, I was so sad. I wanted to get 554 one last time, but the news got out, and the line was just unimaginable. The good news was, 554 will live on! This restaurant in surburbs, far from Chinatown, will continue to serve 554 with original receipe.
And I finally had a chance to try after long months. It was picked up as I had to bring it back to work and eat. So, there is no rating on service and Atmosphere. I picked up pork egg foo young as well.
I'm giving solid 4...First price is $12.50, I think it's expensive for what it is. They are definitely capitalizing on the name 554, its very simple dish. Taste wise, it was very similar, but I think the pork should be a bit more tender, can be more juicy. Obviously, they don't make this as much as Seven Treasure used to do, so I get it. I also did taste more of that chinese 5 spice. I put soy sauce on my eggs to mimic how it use be to served, and that's how it should be eaten.
Egg foo young was also not bad, but the gravy lacked a bit of flavor for me.
Overall, it's not bad, but I guess you can't beat the original.
I definitely should try their specialty, seems like their noodle dishes were popular, so I will try...
Read moreI had their Cantonese Fried Shrimp as an appetizer. It was delivered in six pieces. I'm pleased it was made fresh because it was hot when it got at my table. The fried shrimp has a distinct form that resembles a donut. The batter is a lovely golden hue, and the texture is crunchy. It's unfortunate that the shrimp is hidden beneath a thick layer of batter. The fried shrimp was lackluster on its own, but it was served with sweet and sour sauce and hot mustard for flavor.
I got their noodle soup with shrimp wonton and roast duck for my entree. The portion was fairly large. I wished it had been served in a ceramic bowl to retain the heat because the soup was warm. The chicken broth has a deep flavor. The chicken broth has a fantastic depth of flavor, and every sip satisfies my palate. The roast duck has a gamey undertone, and the meat is on the tough side. There are two or three chunks that have a significant amount of meat and the rest are merely bone. I'm impressed with the egg noodle; no matter how long it's submerged in the soup, it retains its solid texture. In my perspective, the shrimp wonton was more satisfying than the roast duck. The wonton exterior was delicate, and the inside was aromatic.
The service was quite fast; I never expected to receive an appetizer and my meal at the same time. Customer service, on the other hand, is inadequate. I felt rushed at first, and once the meal was served, the server didn't bother to check on me. This is a good spot for good food at a reasonable price,...
