Unassuming. Quaint. Tranquil. Elon is but a whistle stop of a town but there are some big surprises tucked away in this North Carolina hamlet and The Root Trackside is a perfect example. Two dining rooms set the stage for those seeking to whet their culinary curiosity. casual and family friendly vibes prevail.

A bevy of appetizers help start the party. You simply must try the spicy cauliflower! Imagine a vegetarian version of that ubiquitous Chinese orange glazed sesame chicken and you get the idea.

Our appetizer hit the table just as Led Zeppelin’s angelic tune “Your Time is Gonna Come” wafted out of the overhead speakers—unmitigated majesty! The menu boasts several burger, sandwich, and wrap selections that offer different takes on the old (boring) favorites. The skirt steak wrap came correct-(mine hit the table to Tina Turner’s “The Best” and my tastebuds fluttered like my heart on a first date. The fries were crispy and blistering hot but I’m assessing a penalty for room temperature ketchup. Call me eccentric if you wish but chilled ketchup is to hot french fries what heavy cream is to hot coffee. I’m just saying.

The chickpea sandwich (sorry but I just can’t bring myself to call it a burger but that’s the idea) offers the vegetarians a worthwhile option. The patty was crispy and served on a nice sturdy bun with all the fixings.

There is a full bar and plenty of beer/wine selections as well. Our server was a nice, friendly young lady who kept our beverages topped off and displayed just the right quantity of attentiveness.

All this just a country mile (or three) from those derelict strip mall store fronts that is Burlington-that’s nasty! Come on and check out what The Root Trackside...

This is one of my favorite restaurants in all of the Burlington area, and definitely my favorite in all of Elon. The Root is a smaller restaurant which is most known to be a lunch hotspot for Elon students and others alike. It has an upscale feel to the restaurant, where parties can quickly get in and out within a 45 minute time span. You typically will only see a wait at the Root during busy lunch hours, such as Friday's or Saturday's. The Root has a variety of menu options including but not limited to: salads, sandwiches, and wraps. They also have multiple atypical side items which are very popular, the one that specifically comes to my mind is Brussels sprout. A quick note before proceeding forward about main entree items, the mac and cheese is unbelievably tasty. I highly consider switching out your fries for mac and cheese as their fries are not great and their mac and cheese is! The entrees at The Root have been enjoyed by all of my friends and family alike. A specific dish that two family members love is the Asian Salad. The restaurant also has a very good burger (which is paired well with the mac and cheese). An ending piece about The Root which is probably unknown by most. The Root has seasonal specials that are delicious! Always make sure to ask about the specials before ordering! Angela and the rest of the wait team does an incredible job and I highly suggest you take yourself to The Root if you are looking for a great dining experience at a...

Stopped in for a quick lunch today and I’m not quite sure what was in the air but it seemed everyone was in a sour mood today. When walking in we approached the host stand. We waited there about 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. They weren’t too busy but we understand things happen. Fine. We are seated by a younger man. He was super pleasant. We were greeted afterward by a young lady who took our drink order. She grabbed our drinks down and we never saw her again. Another lady stopped by about 15 minutes later to take our food order. I honestly felt like I was disrupting them by being there. My daughters and I felt uncomfortable throughout our dining experience because of how no one wanted to speak or smile. It was very strange and felt like they didn’t want us there. we ordered the truffle fries and unfortunately did not care much for them. Just our preference as we did not realize that it came with melted cheese. The rest of our food a bit to come out, but I will say it was delicious. The brussels sprouts here are off the charts and I thoroughly enjoyed my grilled chicken salad. Unfortunately our service overshadowed our food and I don’t think that...

Food is wonderful. A little frustrated with checking in with young lady up front. Not very friendly and took our names for wait list. Didn’t share how long it might take. Didn’t smile! I did ask the couple waiting in front of us how long did she say the wait time is, She said ten minutes….more like 20. While we were waiting up front we saw like four tables available and open. The young lady seemed more interested in handing out “take out orders” verses sitting us at open tables. Very frustrating with how slow it was just to be seated. I finally mentioned to the hostess, those tables are open can’t we sit at one of these? She said, “yeah” smh! This is my second time eating here and I do love the food! Excellent food! I’m just old school with having good manners and being friendly especially while working with the public. Hope the staff will come alive a bit and do better with seating the public
