J'S BAGELS & CAFE — Restaurant in Emerson

I was passing by and need it a quick bite, I found this to be closest deli near me. Place is very clean and has a nice ambiance but that’s about it. I saw the huge sign with breakfast specials for $4.95 from pancakes to egg sandwiches. I ordered pancakes and an egg sandwich when it was time to pay I was being charged $13.06 and when I asked about the price, the cashier told me that he has a sheet whit the prices and he has to go by that sheet, I said what about the breakfast specials for $5 and he just said again “ I have sheet here and it says the prices are on that sheet and that’s what I have to charge” this sheet is taped by the register and customer can not see it. I highlighted it in one of the photos. The cashiers told me the price are higher now so this are the prices. I was hungry so I was not going to eat over the difference in price, when I got my food and the pancakes where not fully cooked and the egg sandwich had a weird flavor to it so I threw them and left. I have a gluten allergy and saw that J's advertises Gluten free wraps and rolls so I decided to go there for a breakfast wrap. I arrived and saw advertisements inside of the deli for said gluten free wraps and rolls. When ordering, I was told they do not have gf wraps or rolls. So, I got the bacon, egg & cheese on a plate and was charged $8.00. Those three things are cheaper on a bagel when ordered alone...how? I would not recommend this deli to a friend.

Review part 2 - The manager responded and said they advertise gluten free bagels and not rolls but on the bottom of one of the display screens it says "gluten free options available, bagels, wraps and rolls". The manager also noted that all their wraps are gluten free(which is unlikely). It seems the employees do not know this, I asked for a BE&C on a gluten free wrap and they said that they do...

Great little bagel nook and has the best bagels in a 4 mile radius. Coming from Garfield which has great bread products it was extremely hard to find a comparable place, so here it is. The only issue is they are slow in completing orders, but they never messed up my order like Goldberg does every time.

I also agree with the others that the staff are excellent, friendly, respectable, and always have a smile on their face. They keep a clean place and make a variety of food that you'll be satisfied. Been going there for over 5 years and the place has only gotten better. I recommend them over many...
