I came for tacos, and Agave delivered with the culinary uppercut. 💥👊
First off, yeah—there’s nowhere to sit. Boohoo. Welcome to SoCal. Roll your windows down, lean the seat back, and let the breeze slap you across the face while you sink your teeth into some of the best damn birria tacos San Diego has to offer. If you’re the kind of person who needs a patio heater and Instagram lighting to enjoy food, maybe stick to brunch downtown.
Now, Agave keeps it honest. You’re here for tacos. Traditional, time-tested, no-frills flavor bombs. Whether you go mini or full-size, they slap every time. Each plate comes with a little side hustle of jalapeños, onions, cucumber, and radish—like the crew rolling with the main act. Crunchy, fresh, and just spicy enough to remind you you’re alive.
And here’s the kicker—you walk away full, but not wrecked. No food coma, no regret, no grease-induced existential crisis. That’s what happens when you use real ingredients and don’t cut corners.
Pro tip: don’t overthink it. Stick to the classics—birria, carne asada, al pastor. This isn’t fusion, this is fuel.
Agave isn’t trying to be cute, it’s just trying to feed you right....
Read moreI am happy and proud to report that this spot hits the spot. I will warn you that there is no seating and it's all takeout. Now the consomé, soup, is very well seasoned. The meat was a tinsy bit dry but just dip it in the included consomé and you're back on track to life in paradise with every bite of these delicious tacos de birria. The only other place I used to eat birria at was in Chula Vista and I live North East so this is a great find. I highly recommend it. I highly highly highly recommend this location for BIRRIA. The mini tacos are plenty big, practically traditional size with double tortilla. I also ordered the quesabirria de maiz, a birria quesadilla with corn tortilla and it was the perfect size. I'd say two of those will fill you up and make you happy. The hot sauce was hot and tasty. I like how your order includes grilled onions, the consomé, radish and cucumber slices and a Serrano chile and lime. Great experience overall, fast and friendly with...
Read moreNeeded a quick bite to eat while I stopped at the gas station and popped into this place and WOW was I surprised in the best way! I typically don’t leave reviews unless I’m truly impressed by a place and Agave Birrieria certainly did that. Being next to a gas station, I didn’t have any expectations of the place, but walking in, it was incredibly clean and the folks working the counter were professional and very friendly, helping to recommend their favorites and what local favorites were. I got the quesabirria, which was fresh and mouthwateringly-delicious, and from their recommendation, also got the homemade coconut flan. The flan was light and creamy and it’s no wonder they sell out so often! I’ve been back several times now because I consider this a local staple.
My only wish is that they had some little tables so you could have the option of eating there, but that aside, love the food and the service and wishing this business all...
