So...as a Greek I was looking forward to some nice authentic Greek cuisine after 9 months! yum yum!
Walking in...quiet with very Authentic Greek Music 🎵🎶
...Great service, and ordered a nice big $25 meal of the big um, gyro, chips and tzaztiki dip along side a nice cold soft drink and spanakopita. Then I went to sit down on a nice peaceful table. Service was fast and friendly. Interesting menu of "Greek" items to choose from.
They often say "all good things must come to and end". probably not literally as universal as that but close enough.
Maybe I need to treat myself more, or maybe taste buds have not had enough exercise out doors since the pandemic wound down, but whatever it was, I paid the price alright!
The good: Service and staff were lovely, Greek Music, Soft Drink. (Stars gained on the above) ✅
The semi-bad: Tzaztiki and Pita...wierd taste and texture. Not sure if this was pulled from the local grocery shop but it was not good. Frozen before hand? not sure... Same with the cold pura bread. Not stale but not authentic. Had worse than this. Had a lot better too. Well presented though!
The uglies: The leading star gyro: shocking taste, texture and being cold...mmm not what a greek would have in mind. This needs to be presented with better ingredients. Not authentic at all. Especially how the "feta" was smeared on it. This would rank at the bottom of the barrel for sure on my list.
The sweet spanakopita - im sure this is not a dessert or a sweet candy thing. But it tasted like...a cold sweet without the spinach. I like sweets, but only after dinner. This needs major improvement. This was on the down low for sure.
the fries: The dunce of the pack. 'Nuff said. ❌
I chose to preserve my spoiled appetite as best I could and cordially evacuated into the cold winter night double time.
...later that evening my gusto found salvation in a nice pub up the road. And thats where at least the happy endings started and the...
Read moreSo, yesterday I made the mistake of suggesting this place for our weekly quarantine friends movie night. Four of us placed orders for pickup, three on their website, one on Postmates: all under the same name, all with the same pickup time.
When I got there, I popped open my trunk, called the placed, gave them my name and I said I had four orders for pickup. One of their runners came out to my car and placed the orders in my trunk. I waved thanks and drove away.
20 minutes later, I arrive at my destination only to discover that three of the four orders had made it, the Postmates one was not delivered to my car.
Now, here's the thing: mistakes happen. But when I call you, your can lead with 'Okay, sorry this happened, let me get some information from you so that I can figure out how we can make this right and avoid it happening again' or you can do what the lady on the phone did, which is argue with me that I only placed three orders.
I can also be forgiving given the times, if it wasn't for the fact that we are now almost nine months into this whole COVID-19 mess (seven from the shutdowns): dine in is not likely to go back to normal for a while so, if you haven't figured out how to operate your pickup services, I don't know how much longer you can hope to keep those doors open.
Worse you got one of the other orders wrong and forgot one one the other add ons that we ordered and were charged for.
And would it have killed you to have refreshed my food? You know you made a mistake, you know I'm not exactly a happy camper with you right now, and you just let my stuff sit in a box until I got there. 20 minutes going, 20 minutes coming back and I am sitting at my table with soggy fries and a cold gyro.
This is your second strike in less than 30 days. There won't be a third: train your staff, learn how to figure out your pick systems, or us four won't be the only...
Read moreRecently, I was given a gift card for this restaurant by a person whom I only met a couple of times as a good will gift. Today, I used that card to buy my family a meal. I used the website to order curbside pickup, and my order was ready within 30 minutes, just like the website said it would be. When I arrived, I called and let them know I was waiting outside, and a server brought my food out not even a minute later! Now that's what I call speedy service.
I ordered the gyros platter with rice pilaf. The meat was unbelievably tender, and seasoned perfectly. The pita bread was softer than any pita bread I have ever had, and the rice was delicious. The meal came with a side of salad served with their house vinaigrette. If you do order a salad, just know that they come with kalamata olives that are not pitted, so just be careful when biting into them.
All in all, I would strongly recommend The Great Greek if you are looking for an incredible Mediterranean dinner. And if the person who gave me that gift card is reading this, Thank you for your generosity. You helped me bring my family home a great meal, and I am deeply...
