Barb & Ed's — Restaurant in Ephrata

Went to Barb and Ed’s for breakfast because I’ve heard such rave reviews. Ordered full order of biscuits and gravy and a side of hashbrowns. 14.95 for the order. Ok that’s all good and normal. Get home and the “hashbrowns” are a puck of potato like you’d get at McDonald’s. I know that they have hashbrowns because I’ve seen peoples food from there. I called and asked to confirm and the gal that took our money answered the phone. I said don’t you guys have regular hashbrowns? Her reply was yes we have shredded hashbrowns and hashbrowns patties. I asked why we were given the patty and she said “because it’s easier to carry around”. Ok but I ordered biscuits and gravy. Do you think I’m carrying my breakfast around?? Oh and the real kicker both types of hashbrowns are $4.95!!!! 😱 In all honesty, I’ve been here maybe 5 times since they opened and never have I had a positive experience. This location has done it once again and the best part about it is that the new owners, the Smith Family has kept the last long time owners name and have made it their goal to provide the best Customer Service they can provide with most of the previous menus items. I can say with experience that these folks will stand by their product just as the owners grand parents did, long standing business owners in Ephrata did years ago. The Smith family used to own a drapery shop across the street and grandpa Herb remodeled several homes for people in the area. I ordered a Basin Double Cheese Burger with Fries and could easily settle for a single. The cheese came melted just as I like and the fries were fresh cut, something rarely seen anymore. All though all of the locally owned Eating Establishments I would recommend, this one is a must to check out if you passing through. I will definitely be visiting Barb...

I HATE to be the one to give bad review.... THREE of us went for dinner, Two had Special, Prime Rib/French Dip. Apparently the Aujus is Spicy, there we're onion's on top, wasn't an item on menu, neither asked IF it had onions or said it had onions, so it was sent back. She did enjoy her meal but $18.00! Times Two! Waitress brought the one with onions that was sent back and said keep it, Free. WOW a 2fur... BUT I'm really sorry to say my Patty Melt sure disappointed me. The ' Patty's ' we're t h I n ( thin) like for child's burger, I asked for bread to be browned really good, whole side, dang it was brown, Center was soft. My fries were hard and crunchy, couldn't eat but a few. BUT... THE Girls taking care of US? Did Damned GOOD job. I MADE Sure They were Tipped Generously. PRICES are just to high for me.
