HUGO’S MEXICAN GRILL — Restaurant in Epping

Went with family tonight during the busy, rush-hour of people getting food for Cinco De Mayo (or just in general) and, although there was a bit of a wait (~20 mins or so), it was SO worth it! The owners and their family were very nice, and apologized for the wait (which isn’t necessary at all, we’re so glad a new family has opened up what used to be Epping House of Pizza). Very happy that someone else was able to use the old space. The service was lovely, the food was delicious (although, I am a FIRM Las Olas fan), and, although the building is old, they made do! It’s a great addition to Epping, especially on Main Street! The owners are honest, food tastes fresh, and they really are a small business doing what they can with what they’ve got! Shrimp bowl, black beans, Spanish rice, jalapeños, onions, cheese. House margarita. Young man taking order seemed unable to take more than one bowl filling item at a time. I had to repeat selections 3x. Perhaps a different system of ordering is needed. Food tasted good, but was served lukewarm/cold. Ordered margarita at time of payment. Customers behind us were served food before the margarita was brought to the table. Glass was LOADED with ice. My meal was more than half eaten before my drink arrived. I will give this place one more try based on taste of food. If next experience is similar, I won't try again or recommend. I do hope...

I ordered a build your own bowl with carne asada and the habanero salsa. The meat, onions, and cilantro were missing, and I can't find a phone number to contact you. The salsa was watered down. The finely shredded cheese reminded me of the Mexican four cheese bags. The chili corn salsa and pico were the same thing and missing flavor. The Spanish rice and Pinto Beans also lacked flavor. Certainly not authentic nor 'orgasmic' - tasted more like taco bell imo.
