First time trying this Japanese restaurant. It was pricey, and my takeout order included an item I'd inquired about over the phone but did not order. Honest mistake but it added $8 to my ticket. The food was okay. The sashimi appetizer included 3 disappointingly chewy cuts of something like fatty tuna. The Unagi don was pretty nice, but some of the eel cuts were very chewy and fatty. Not flaky. The vegetables in the tempura shrimp appetizer were delightful but the frozen shrimp they used were mushy, bready. I haven't tried the soup, salad, or dumplings yet. That's lunch today. I'll probably try this place again, but order something else. The large tropical fish in the breezeway/entry area are beautiful but concerning. That tank is maybe suitable for the two Oscar alone, but certainly not for everyone, and the Gourami, Arowana, and various albino fish seem cramped.

This was a unassuming restaurant. I went with family and we got seated quickly with no reservation. The menu was quite extensive, but I ordered three types of rolls, California roll, spicy tuna roll, and Fancy Maki roll. The waitresss was both very friendly and also made us laugh several times. Inside the restaurant is a darker modern appeal with a obvious Japanese theme. Our food took the perfect amount of time and our waitress spaced our soups and salads and appetizers perfectly from our main course. Everything I had here was delicious, even though the soup was not my favorite, the seaweed taste was a little too strong for me, but two of my family members liked it. Overall my first experience here was great and I know I would come back for sushi again as well as to try more of their menu.

When entering you are greeted by beautiful large white fish, some with colored speckles. We had pork dumplings for an appetizer, they were soft and so delish. Highly recommend of you like dumplings. The sushi was excellent, atmosphere wasn't too loud and the service was also excellent. We opted for šŸ£ and it all came on a nice platter. The habachi rooms are out back around the corner so they are separate from the people eating in the dining room. Oh and plenty of parking. The sushi was nice and fresh! The lighting changes colors by the bar, but it doesn't seem to effect the overall lighting in our booth. An excellent dinner to catch up with a friend. Oh and the bubbly saki was pretty darn good. It certainly wasn't like drinking regular saki at all.

This place is proof that you can't believe reviews. Pearl Orient up the road is better reviewed than Kume. So we went there. The place is not clean and the food is vile. We left after the apps were inedible.

We walked into Kume and our entire night changed. The wait staff were friendly and professional.

The food was impeccable. The sushi chefs blessed me with their skills and artist vision. While the differences of their offerings with many other enjoyable establishments are subtle, it is after all rice fish and seaweed, here I felt the differences as much as I tasted them.

The rice was sublime. I found myself sucking on the rice and enjoying the feel in my mouth. It had the same mouth feel as what I experienced in Japan, but the taste was much much different. The taste was not far from traditional, but the chefs painted it with an artist's brush of flavors. Some distinguishable some not. Extraordinary. I could have eaten just rice and would not have been displeased with the meal.

The knives work was perfect but somehow less impressive. Better than most, but it should be with the skills on display.

The service was excellent. Every time I looked up, my server was there to see if everything was ok.

The biggest shock was the check. $60 for 2 meals and drinks and we both left with doggy bags.

As a side note, if you go with a baby that can use a straw they have small cups and straws that didn't spill when our 11 month old knocked it over.

This place is a must go. It will...

My husband and I stopped here frequently for lunch however, we will probably be reconsidering and not returning to this location after our experience today. We had hibachi lunch with our five-year-old son, and the waitress had a very, very hard time, taking our order for whatever reason, I’m not sure if it is a language barrier or what she seemed very inexperienced. We were sensitive to the fact that she didn’t really know what she was doing so we made sure to clarify everything with her she even returned to our table to reiterate, and clarify our order for a second Time and still got it wrong. Not surprisingly when we received our bill. It was wrong and she did not understand our order when I had asked to speak to someone about it the young girl behind the bar came over and laughed in my face and walked away, and then continued laughing afterward. Neither of those girls have any business in the restaurant business. Very appalled at how rude these people were. Being people that frequented this location I know that all three of the employees that are working there in the front of the house today are new and they are going to ruin the establishment. Hopefully the owners check these reviews out and investigate before it’s too late. We ended up paying the bill that was $30 too high, just to save the argument and get out of there as it was an awful experience. The chef was great unfortunately, with those three working in the front of the house I think it’s gonna be a total...

We eat here pretty often as it's the only place in a 40min radius that has decent sushi.

I have to give a low rating because in the past year we've started to get worse and worse service and food.

We've had a bad oyster roll, bad scallop roll, and bad soft shell crab roll. The oyster roll made my husband sick for days.

For service, know if you go in or call to order take out, the cost is significantly less than ordering online. Went for a large family gathering this weekend for hibachi, there were 9 of us, 4 ordered hibachi, 5 wanted sushi or kitchen meals. Apparently half of your party needs to order hibachi to sit at the table which of course we found out after we were all sat with drinks and settled in. Since they don't even have a table that would sit 9 and I wasn't going to have my grandmother get up holding her drink waiting for a table, I changed my order from sushi to hibachi which was just average. Jokes on them because it cost me $12 less than my sushi order.

All in all, I will keep going back because there aren't options, but as soon as someone opened up closer to us or as close, I won't be coming here anymore.

P.s. the kume in newmarket is fire, 10 times better...
