El Canelo Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Erie

This is specific to the Peach Street El Canelo's. More often than not, I was getting more and more disappointed. Previously, I stopped going because portion sizes seemed to decrease and flavoring as well. I also called on taco Tuesday around dinner time and was told I could not get tacos. Even though I live closer to Peach St. I always drive to 12th St. El Cans. I retried Peach Street again. First time ordering in a while, I ordered lunch size fajitas on Sunday at lunch (I was told again by same guy answering the phone re: no tacos, that they do not serve lunch portions of fajitas on Sunday). I ordered and was happy with the dinner portion. I decided to try it again. This time, I ordered fajitas. The tortillas were old, hard and could not bit into it. It comes with guacamole and sour cream. Guac was missing. So, not happy to spend almost $20.00 on fajitas that you have nothing edible to wrap in and missing guacamole. Back to 12th street El Canelo for me or El Amigos downtown. Since 50/50 shot at good take-out...

Ordered unsweetened tea. Wife couldn't drink it water was terrible. Sent it back. Had to get a drink from the fridge She also ordered food a combo tacco and burrito. The burrito couldn't cut into it. Chicken was so tough. She picked it up and water literally ran out as if it was frozen and no one drained the meat after it was microwave Only thing that she ate were the beans. I had the fajita beef an chicken. Couldn't even cut either with a knife. No flavor or seasening on the meat just the peppers and onions. Rice was hard. We were there 08/01/23 around 1215. Only 6 people were eating. We are from out of town an definitely will not be back. Went to give the leftovers to the dog an he won't even eat it. To bad there is no zeros...

Did this restaurant change owners recently? We have been going here since they opened. That was a long time ago now (20 yrs?). It was very different tonight. First, the vegetarian menu is gone and when we placed our order asking for another combo as a vegetarian this request seemed confusing or difficult for them. I asked for a different sauce in one of the dishes and then everyones’ dishes in the whole order had that same sauce change. We also didn’t receive one of the items we ordered. We also noticed the refried beans are a different consistency and the rice had a different flavor. Yikes. The food wasn’t bad, but definitely not the same...
