I've been coming to this location once in a while ever since it was Blue Mug Coffee & Tea (2002). Among locals, it's a very popular place, with great memories of making new friends, having casual business meetings, going for coffee after downtown events, catching up on the latest community chat or just relaxing with the newspaper and/or a loved one on the weekend. With its wide-open entrance, it's fun watching the world go by on the sidewalk or side street. Years ago, I used to grab coffee there on the way to work. More recently, I’ve had lunch a few times. On my first occasion back in years, I had a little time to relax on the tree-shaded patio before my tomato bisque and mediterranean salad arrived. Slowing down really made me savor the food. That's so important for being able to experience the individual aspects of a meal and what went into the preparation. The texture and subtle herbal flavors of the soup were divine. The artisanal bread was crunchy and delicious. The salad dressing was so fresh and tangy. When I expressed my appreciation, my server told me the details of how they made the meal. I was so impressed. She was clearly someone who loves food, ingredients and the work. That's so important for any establishment. It shows in the final product. The staff were all very hard at work. For patrons, the nice aspect of slowing down is getting to chat with each other on the patio. So, the name of this place may have changed but the vibe remains. Continuity is comforting. The gelato is fabulous. So is their Cali Caprese. Shoppers might also consider this place for quality gifts, e.g. wine, jewelry and goats' milk lotion. It’s great to stroll around town afterwards to check out the murals, stores, farmers’ market, library, etc.

We had the large gelato, which is a bargain at $5.50 ish. You can request 3 flavors. It was creamy, flavorful, and so yummy. They are generous with filling your cup. Cones are also available. We also had a maple pecan scone. It had lots of pecans and was perfect; not too dry. We saw folks ordering panini sandwiches and noticed some yummy and interesting offerings. Breakfast is also served along with a variety of coffee: cappuccino, lattes, drip, etc. The prices are reasonable. The service is efficient and friendly, especially given this is a busy place. We came on a Monday around 200 p.m. and there was a steady stream of customers. Pints of gelato are available as are fun gelato cakes and pastries. Day old Pastries are sold, but I didn't notice a price. They offer self-serve water. Inside is air conditioned but only hasctwo small tables seating 3 or 4. There is a nice outdoor seating area with plenty of tables; most filled at 230. There is some shade. I'm sure this outdoor seating is wonderful in the morning or later afternoon/ evening. It was a bit hot for us. Fans would help. I definitely will return for Gelato. I want to return for a panini sandwich. They also offer soup and salad. This is a fun place for meeting a friend for coffee or lunch/breakfast or a gelato!" I will be back. I enjoyed my visit and Gelato flavors: maple pecan, chocolate and peanut butter fudge! Visit during Cruisin Grand!

When we moved from downtown San Diego to the beautiful city of Escondido, my wife really wanted paninis. We have been coming to EscoGelato for about a year now, and the paninis have not let us down. Personal favorites are the Deedo and Caprisi because of the pesto. Add a little salad or soup for a complete meal. The cherry on top really is the gelato. I came here for coal and found gold. The variety of flavors are amazing; every time I am here the options are all different than the previous day. Lately I enjoy the classics like chocolate and strawberry. Lastly, customer service is top notch. All the people working here are very nice. I will continue to visit and give my business to EscoGelato.

Came in here because this sounded like the best dessert spot in the city and it was really small but cute and it got that kind of indie feel which is a really good thing. Not too many teens talking loud or large groups.

We got Stracciatella, hazelnut and almond joy. Stracciatella tastes like that old Italian dessert that used to come in a box and it was usually called ice cream lasagna. Now for those of you young ones, this came out in the 90's and it was seriously the best thing ever. Never found anything that tasted anything close to it until i tasted this wonderful gelato!!! Brought back some nostalgia...even some tears but I can't cry because I'm a grown man!

Hazelnut tasted just like the beloved Ferraro rocher! It was so good and it became apparent that I might have a dilemma in my hands to what flavor should I choose.

Almond Joy is basically the candy bar but a creamy cold version! This is to die for! So hard picking flavors after I tasted this!

So like responsible, healthy adults we got all three because when you're an adult you can get as much sweets you want! It's not that much? right?

Come here to be confused to which flavor you love the best and expect just to stand there as you ponder on the important life decisions as the charming employees just...
