I have gone to this place many times. I don't know what's happened in the last year, but the coffee now is ABYSMAL. I thought the last 2 lattes were just off-days, but I got the same watered-down excuse of a latte today. And it was the same barista that made it.
My Vietnamese coffee shouldn't taste like you just put nonfat milk into some basic coffee. It's strong coffee with sweetened condensed milk. I didn't taste either of those things. Just bland, diluted coffee. The latte tasted the same. Barely any flavor of espresso or syrup. My partner experienced the same disappointment the last few times we got coffee here.
They did not call out the name when it was ready. They were too busy talking next to us. Who cares if someone is waiting for their coffee I guess. Even at my job I call out names twice.
Then the server literally threw the plates on the table and left. No specifying who gets what. No offering utensils, napkins, no asking for anything else. My toast wasn't even cut in half.
I wish I could get my tip back. This was the worst service and coffee I have ever had. I wanted to support local coffee spots, but management does not seem to care about quality here anymore. This is the last time I'm coming here.
Edit:
Dear owner, "Might I suggest" you teach your staff basic customer service and your barista how to pull espresso and how to steam and froth milk in a basic latte. Nothing wrong...
Read moreI have been a patron of the kettle for more than a decade. I have seen it through different owners and managers and vibes, all the while counting to support my favorite local coffee shop. It is with great sorrow that I step away. It’s still the best coffee in town. Unfortunately, their policy to upcharge decaf coffee by 1.50 per cup (along with all the additional fees) have made them a place I can no longer frequent.
When the new owner came, he changed the name of the delicious decaf beans to say they were stripped of all joy. Which was funny and fine but it seems there is a vendetta against people who drink decaf in a way that feels ableist. There are many reasons for people to drink decaf, including chronic illness, disability, and pregnancy.
No other shop on grand charges ten dollars for a decaf latte, and based on the owners earlier comments, it feels like a vendetta. I understand that decaf beans may cost more (they didn’t by the bag when kettle roasted beans in house) but a pulled shot is a pulled shot. Luckily, Grand Avenue offers many coffee choices. I’m just sad that my favorite no longer supports...
