First of all, it is always so good to know Euclid has a new restaurant. This restaurant presents itself as a fine food eatery, however there is nothing that makes it extraordinary. Coming from NYC, Naples, Bali, Brazil, etc. and growing up with cooks and not USA food, makes one a very sophisticated eater. I ordered Rockefeller Oysters ( which I had only once before in Cleveland, and they were exquisite). They serve them not as they are served traditionally everywhere I have had them . There were 4 oysters. One was pretty decent, the other 3 were tiny, overcooked and worse Rockefeller oysters ever. Of course the cost is up, and yet I do not care to pay for what I buy, however these made me not come back again.
I do not want to offend anyone, but if they permit to reviews, anyone witting about fine arts, Cuisine, etc, might as well be honest.
Euclid is a town in a town, and great food one will not find. Tell me where you are from and I will tell much about your culinarian education. My point here is that in general Cleveland people are not sophisticated enough to understand High Cuisine, therefore I know that this restaurant , ( which is very decently arranged inside) will make it very well for a while because of what I wrote before and also because Euclid does not have any decent restaurant. If any of my friends or any person asks me about this place : NOT...
Read moreOn a FB recommendation, we dined here for the first time tonight. Chronological review: my "Sims Sunrise" cocktail, basically a margarita, was not as good as Costco margarita mix. Wife's "Garden 75," basically a French 75, was maybe 6 sips of meh. ($10 ea) We got the lobster roll app, which was relatively tasty, but one of the rolls was clearly burnt. ($21) I got the shrimp & grits and, mostly because I like pork belly, it was good. Not as good as Crumb & Spigot certainly, but good. ($25) Wife got the scallops, which came with polenta, pork belly, and "lemon butter." There was no shortage of pork belly and the whole thing was swimming in basically salty gravy. No lemon butter found. Scallops were completely overpowered. ($38) Wife asked for bread and was told flatly (indignantly to my ear) "We don't serve bread." Then came the bill, which had a 3.25% "convenience charge." Server, who was nice, explained that was for paying with a credit card and would be removed if we paid with cash. I don't carry around $160 in cash. Bottom line: this is not fine dining. Go to the The Standard in Euclid for that. A server at a fine dining establishment would have seen that 75% of the food was left on the plate and been concerned. Nope, not here. We won't be returning. "Other than that, how'd you like the play...
Read moreI know I'm going against the grain with this review but...I didn't really enjoy my visit. #1: Nothing served at lunch can be served during dinner (burger etc.) That's fine. #2: The entree I wanted came with Polenta. I don't like Polenta, so I asked if I could sub for mashed potatoes. No subbing allowed. On anything. I was very disappointed in that. I ended up ordering a salad. It was a very large salad, considering it was on the starter menu. Everything else we ordered was good, just disappointed with having to order without subs. #3: The service was ok. They sat us in the bar area. Fine. You don't get the best attentive service in the bar area unless you're actually AT the bar. So we ran out of our drinks quickly. Didn't get more until our food came & noticed our empty glasses. There seemed to be several regulars at the bar, and the bartender/waitress seemed to have a good report with them, but we clearly weren't regulars and sparsely noticed. The atmosphere was ok. I know it's billed as upscale, but the decor is not that. However, it wasn't bad. It's a chill vibe. I think it's great that Euclid has this place. Much needed. I think I might be back. Not soon. I would like to see how the service would be away...
