This is now the best barbecue I’ve had in the Lawrence area. This awesome barbecue spot is only 12 minutes away from where I live in east Lawrence, and I went today for the first time after hearing about it on Facebook and seeing it as an option on DoorDash. The food and the service were outstanding and I can’t complement this restaurant enough. I got the Haystack sandwich, which is their brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken on a bun with onion strings- that sandwich is the perfect combination to try a variety of their meats, and they all paired so well together! I think I liked the brisket the best but all the meats were flavorful and nothing was dry. It’s no surprise that the Haystack is their most popular sandwich. We also got a barbecue platter with burnt ends and pulled pork and thought the burnt ends were very tender. We got sides of the fries and curly fries- I would absolutely recommend getting the curly fries, these are better than Arby’s curly fries. Oh and the barbecue sauces were pretty great too! On top of the food being amazing, the woman who took our order gave exceptional service- she was so friendly and took the time to explain the menu and recommended items to us when we told her it was our first time at the restaurant. She checked on us while we were eating and really added to the great experience we had. I can’t stress this enough- you’ve got to come try this place if you want amazing barbecue. There’s so many other menu options to try that I’ve already got a list of what I want to try next time....
Read moreThis place has potential but it's not quite there. The moonshine is good, the rub on the burnt ends is good, and if you like vinegar based bbq you'll like this. However, the amount of flies outside is ridiculous- the fact they have no mitigation after being open for a year is a little crazy given the proximity to a creek. I ordered a burger with carmalized onion jam and gouda, and requested bacon added. After we got our food, my burger didn't have any of those items. I brought it inside and was told my jam had melted into the burger bun; however, there were no onions? I didn't realize I was missing the gouda and bacon until after I had eaten most of my burger (thanks to the moonshine). My son ordered nachos and the cheese sauce was non-existent, my grammy ordered the burnt ends surf and turf and was missing a shrimp. My mom originally wanted a burnt end dinner but was told she couldn't because she wasn't getting...
Read moreDisappointed with our first visit to Barbwire BBQ. We were really looking forward to trying this place and ordered the Farmhouse Platter for two, expecting a hearty, flavorful BBQ experience. Unfortunately, it fell short in several ways. The meats — which should be the star of the show — were barely warm when they arrived at our table. Lukewarm brisket and sausage just don’t cut it, and it made everything feel like it had been sitting too long before being served. Even worse were the parmesan green beans, which were cold. Not just room temperature — cold. Completely took away from any enjoyment we might’ve gotten out of the sides. Overall, the food felt rushed and not freshly prepared. For the price and the hype, we expected much better quality and attention to detail.
We took our food home to have Chef Mike properly heat...
