Our decision to grab breakfast at Real Texas Cafe while picking up family from the airport Sunday morning left us with a mixed impression. In summary, it was just an okay experience. Our breakfast orders spanned a variety of items. The omelet was decent, and the French toast, while not terrible, was a bit undercooked, leaving a lingering taste of egg. We also ordered eggs over easy and poached, but both orders arrived undercooked, as if the grill hadn't quite heated up enough to cook them properly. However, if there's one thing that stood out, it was the biscuits. They were exceptional, so good that I'd contemplate returning solely for them. Unfortunately, the gravy accompanying them was disappointingly watery. The fried pork chops lacked flavor, as did the potatoes. In an unconventional breakfast move, I decided to indulge in pie and ordered a slice of coconut cream pie, which we all shared. It had a pronounced coconut flavor, which was a plus, and the texture was thick and nearly creamy. Members of our group described it as "good" and "decent," so it's a matter of personal preference. Our server was friendly and attentive until he handed us the bill, after which he didn't return, leaving us to pay with cash to expedite our departure. In the grand scheme of things, Real Texas Cafe was just okay. Whether I would recommend dining here and reaching into your wallet depends on your expectations. For me, I won't be making a return visit, as there are significantly better cafes and diners in the DFW area that offer a more satisfying...
Read moreWe visited Real Texas Cafe for the 1st time yesterday evening for dinner and were satisfied with the menu offerings. The decor is nothing extravagant, but the food more than makes up for that.
We were seated immediately and had our drink orders taken by a kind young man. There were only two waitresses on duty, so there was a bit of a wait to order, but our food didn't take long to arrive once we had ordered.
The entrees for dinner are served with a side salad, rolls, and 2 sides. The salad is nothing fancy but it was good! The entrees were very generous in portion size, and we ended up taking about half home for another meal.
We did order dessert to go, and that is the only thing I would say was not exactly what I had thought it would be. The strawberry pie didn't have a strawberry filling under the topping - it was more of a whipped strawberry filling, and I was thinking it would have been whole strawberries. Oh well, it was still good!
Will definitely be making a return visit. I would definitely rank the food alongside CB, just without the store and...
Read moreThe sign on the building says "Home Cooking", and that is exactly what I got! I ordered the daily special of Chicken and Dressing. I chose green beans and real mashed potatoes for my 2 sides. My green beans were just like my Granny used to make, and the mashed potatoes were definitely "real". Restaurant dressing always seems the same no matter where you get it from. This dressing was nothing like "restaurant" dressing, it was very unique and definitely fell in to the "home cooking" description. I liked the seasoning on the chicken, and the gravy looked and tasted like it was made from pan drippings, not from a package. If it was from a package, you'd never know it. The croutons on the salad were homemade too. The only thing that could have made this meal a little better would have been a little bit of cranberry sauce. Other than that, everything about it was great! I called in my order for pick up, and the lady on the phone was very helpful and friendly. My friend recommended this place to me, and she said their meatloaf is incredible. I can't wait to...
