Cafe Rouge Express — Restaurant in Eustis

After one very mediocre meal several months ago, we decided to give Cafe Bistro another chance. The food here is not horrible; the service can be. I ordered a New York strip medium. It was delivered so rare that is was purplish and glossy inside. I'm usually not one to say anything, so I ate a few pieces. The meat was flexing like raw meat when I tried to cut it. As I moved further from the smaller end of the steak to the thicker part, of course, the steak was even rarer. The server was so busy with others that she had only asked how everything was 30 seconds after the dishes were delivered. She disappeared for at least ten minutes. Staring at the cold rare steak, I started to feel a little sick. She finally only came back when she thought we were done. She asked if we wanted a box for the steak. I said, "That steak is way too rare to be medium. Neither one of us could eat it." She looked angry and said, "Why didn't you tell me when I asked how everything was?" (At the point, I hadn't even had any steak). Then I heard her go back to the cook and say, "The guy says this is too rare." The cook apparently looked at it and did nothing. Our check was delivered without another word.

Frankly, I am bewildered by all of the great reviews about this restaurant. DO YOU PEOPLE WORK AT CAFE ROUGE OR WHAT? I'm not a foodie or a snob, but the food here (we've shared four different entrees) has been bland, overpriced, and once, horrid. The ambiance is just okay. The servers are not very knowledgeable and they have been understaffed each time I've been there (though the restaurant only had a few patrons).

As much as I like to support local restaurants in small towns like this, I will never go back to Cafe Rouge. Note to the restaurant, should you ever read this: when the customer tells you that you did not cook his food all the way, don't get angry at the customer. Get a dinner...

Quick Rant........if you live anywhere near Sanford! The food is beautiful and delicious. The staff was amazingly, friendly and warm. The prices are unbelievable (10 to 15 dollars a meal) I never comment about stuff like this but in this case, I just have to.
