Me and my girlfriend decided to checkout this unique fusion restaurant and were met with such a welcoming and flavorful experience. All the workers who helped us this evening were so kind and caring, they were quick to help us when we had lots of questions about African cuisine which we're not too familiar with. We ordered the Madras Boneless Chicken, the Pichana Steak, and the Oxtail Stew with a side of Rice and Nsima. The crispy boneless chicken was so flavorful and fried to perfection, juicy and tender. The pichana steak was juicy and so so tender with the fat rendered beautifully, it melted in your mouth, seasoning was perfect, not too salty nor bland. The oxtail stew was our favorite dish paired with the Nsima per recommendation by the nice man in the front. The oxtail itself was a bit chewy but we might've gone on an off day. The rest of the stew however was immensely flavorful, its very hard to describe the flavor but it was delicious. Carrots and potatoes were cooked PERFECTLY. The chef in the back was so nice as well, he even gave us a free dessert that was so unique and tasty, grilled pinneapple seasoned with cinnamon and some other things I couldn't put my finger on. The price of everything is a bit expensive for a local restaurant, but it is all SO WELL WORTH the money. The quality and care that is put into the food is noticed and this business should be proud of the food they're making. We will be coming back again very soon and also spreading word about this place and hopefully bringing some business to this amazing restaurant. I don't post reviews often but Ubuntu Bar and Grill 1000% deserves it. You will not be dissapointed coming...
Read moreNever tried any African-specific restaurant before so wife and I decided to give Ubuntu a shot. I'm first going to give kudos for great service as it was essentially a one-man show when we arrived for lunch on a Monday. I've had worse service at fully staffed locations! Cozy interior with 2 and 4 tops, and 4 seats at a 21 over bar. Ordering is done on your phone and paid in advance via Toast. We tried: Grilled pineapple: Warm, sweet, juicy, and seasoned with cinnamon. Our son especially enjoyed this. South African seasoned French fries: I'm not usually a fan of single-fried fries, but the seasoning made these a good side dish. But yes, single-fried so not crispy if you're a fan of double-fried. South African yellow rice: First time trying this. Closest I've had to this before is turmeric rice, but this one is made with short grain rice instead. Good flavor and fluffy with just a bit of stickiness to keep rice together. Fried plantains: This was my favorite side, mainly because they even have them! It's nice to have something slightly sweet to contrast with all the savory items. Garlic steak: This was my wife's favorite. Four 3-inch cubes of beef, properly grilled, with a smoky char. We had it medium rare and it was properly done, not dried out and plenty tender. Lots of flavor and not overly salted. Peri peri chicken: I've heard "peri peri" here and there, but usually related to sauce. Three marinated thigh sections with a nice crunchy skin and moist interior, all coated in a spicy peri peri sauce. This does have a nice slow burn, which I liked, but was too hot for my wife.
Overall we enjoyed this place a lot and need to go back to try more...
Read moreThis place is unique from the african art on the walls to the delicious food that won't be found anywhere else in Everett the plantains were mildly sweet that contrasted well with the light charring. The oxtail stew was delicious tender and flavorful. The grilled pineapple is a must try it's reminiscent of a great bread pudding. Nsima pairs with everything since it has little flavor but a thick mashed potatoes texture that is really pleasant. The dino rib is super tender and massive. The steak bites though large to be called bites were seasoned well and cooked to perfect medium. The turkey samosas are crispy and meaty with a roasted pepper forward flavor that is wonderful. The peri peri chicken has just the right amount of spice. The...
