DW Grill and Catering — Restaurant in Fairbanks

Went to DW Grill & Catering for the first time in 6 or 7 years. Weird how fast time goes it didn’t seem that long ago.

Lots of changes since my last visit, like the innovative touch screen ordering stations so you don’t feel like you’re holding up the show with your (or my) ordering indecisiveness, and now a really expanded menu.

Decided on the sunshine burger, with the bacon cheesy ranch curly fries and a cherry Pepsi.

The fries were so good. Fight me, but curly fries are the supreme form of fries. The seasoning was perfect and the cheesy ranch bacon combination was a solid mashup of some of the best flavors. Those got eaten immediately.

The burger was pretty tasty, had a nice char on the outside and the bun was toasted, so a great crunch mouthfeel but too much not like im eating a cracker. Was cooked medium-well but was hoping for pinkish center (I’ll take the risks for flavor!) which was an option on the mobile ordering screen. Burger was great overall though, very happy with it.

Only real bug for me was I chose a special burger and I kinda assumed the tablet would auto populate what one would expect on the burger from the picture, and then you work off that, but I had to manually choose every single item including the egg and how to cook it (which made me feel like I just designed my own burger versus ordering the one on the menu) and I just could not figure out on the fly how to get pickles with the lettuce and tomato 🥲 next time.

DW I feel is a somewhat hidden gem of Fairbanks and I highly recommend it. The owners are amazing people, super friendly family atmosphere, and they’ve done a great job with the small business. A couple days ago I had visited DW; I normally love this place, however my recent experience was way left field. I messaged them on Facebook to solve the problem and gave them a couple days to respond, however they just read it. I get it, people have bad days, this is unacceptable. So here’s my experience from last week. I had placed an order for me and my coworker, to come pick up. The first time I called, I got hung up on. Whatever, no big deal. I called back, got put on a hold. Again, no big deal. It was picked up timely and I had a hard time hearing the lady on the phone. She had a horrible attitude and seemed to be frustrated with me as I couldn’t hear her very well. I’m not sure if it was the connection or what. She was cutting me off with my order or trying to rush my order. I was giving her the second order and she cut me off, so then I repeated that there was no onions to make sure she got that and rudely cut me off again, and said “I already got that”. Then ultimately told me “it’ll be ready soon” and hung up on me. No thank for your order or anything. No comment about what the total would be. I got attitude the whole time, I didn’t say anything, I just let it fly. I honestly didn’t want to come get my order, however my coworker was busy. I never got frustrated with her. So I’m stumped. DW Grill & Catering is not just another average restaurant in our town, it stands out from the majority both in service and food. When you walk into this restaurant you’re immediately greeted by one of the owners or staff members. The atmosphere is spot on and accommodates for both dine in or ordering something fast and fresh to go. I prefer their famous cob chicken salad: Grilled chicken, fresh mixed greens, hard boiled eggs, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, croutons, bacon, and cheese. With my favorite dressing raspberry vinaigrette. All the meals that are ordered are prepared right up front, this giving the customer the availability to see their food prepared. Their work stations and grills are always clean and tidy as well as the seating areas and floors. I recently also used DW Grill & Catering for a work luncheon. DW Grill & Catering made this task extremely simple, by allowing us to place our order ahead of time and providing them with a pick-up time.
