Iâm really careful about the reviews I post. And I typically read others reviews AFTER my purchase and consumption so that I may give a non-biased opinion.
I too, was pleased to see this restaurant, and to find out that it had only been opened a few months. I was thrilled to support. Unfortunately, there are some disappointments here. The cornbread muffins were dry. They literally choked me. Somehow the texture worsened when I added it to the greens. Maybe because the greens tasted like they came from a can. The cornbread dressing was crumbly and sweet and dry as well but not nearly as dry as those cornbread muffins. The cornbread muffins could have been better if they tasted like the cornbread dressing. Dressing is meant to be a savory dish. If it were named cornbread dressing crumble cake it still wouldâve been too dry but the flavor intent wouldâve been understood. It completely missed the mark. The red beans were flavorful and the best part of my meal. They were on the salty side but I attribute that to not having any rice to pair with it. I thoroughly appreciate having the choice of sides that did not contain meat. I would probably steer clear of anything cornbread at this juncture. They were both unbearable and truly disappointing.
The MOST disappointing is the response from the owner to a reviewer of âif God before us who can be against usâ which is the church folk way of saying I donât care what you say. These reviews are here to help. You should want to know if a dish is too salty or too dry or too sweet. Your customers are the ones to keep the lights on. How well you oblige your customers will determine how long you stay in business. Please do not disregard what people are saying, it can only help. Granted not everyone will like your food but too dry, sweet, or salty is something worth taking into consideration. Donât do anything from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourself. Pride leads to disgrace, with humility comes wisdom. Do good work with the humility that comes from wisdom. I pray this reaches you as intended and you take the advice God has given His children to relay to you so that you may gain wealth in this journey. To ignore the wisdom of...
Read moreMac and cheese taste like hella flour, collard greens taste salty and burnt idk how thatâs possible, fried chicken and catfish looks perfect but salty and no seasoned flavor besides that and the banana pudding taste like laffy taffy and artificial. Like itâs soul food with no soul! What in the world! Iâm disappointed and they can do better. You wouldnât know it was black people in the kitchen had you tasted it.
Why didnât I read these reviews on google instead of taking the AFB page advice of saying it was good and Iâm thinking that the people that put 5 âď¸ must be family or friends because ainât no way. Orrrr was the cook not in the kitchen today? Help me Jesus.
Red beans and rice- The first bite immediately had me sitting in a Mississippi kitchen using a wooden spoon to taste what big ma had been cooking all day with an old man sitting on the porch singing the blues while playing a guitar (pronounced gee- tar). The only thing that would make it better is to reduce the salt a tinge.
The green beans - have a uniquely earthy flavor that makes me excited to taste over and over. Again, with a little less salt, i would be signing a portion of my check over to this establishment regularly.
The greens- are better than average. They are seasoned but also on the salty side.
The cabbage- like the green beans, they have a unique flavor to them. They are balanced in terms of seasoning and salt so it pairs amazingly well with the hot sauce. (The cabbage also pairs extremely well with the green beans)
The cornbread - the cornbread is not sweet or salty. It's made mild which makes it perfect for sopping up the juices of the greens, green beans, and red rice and beans.
The peach cobbler - the cobbler strikes an extremely rare balance in it flavor. It's so good that you can almost hear the harmony of the solar system during and after it's in your mouth. This cobbler touched my soul and made me understand the restaurant name.
The owner and employees are extremely charismatic, inviting, and engaging . The music selection makes it a wonderful place to sit and relax.
Some people complain about the price, but the artistry they do in this kitchen makes it completely worth it, and whatever wait may occur do to the popularity they are sure to gain. This is definitely a place to enjoy home cooking blessed by...
