Noble House Kava — Restaurant in Fairfield

I was at Kava House on Saturday, August 23rd for a friend’s birthday and got very sick after drinking the kratom tea they serve. From what I’ve heard, this isn’t uncommon. I emailed them the next morning but, unfortunately, never heard back.

Here is the email:

Hi,

I came to Kava House last night to celebrate a friend’s birthday. I already knew that I don’t like how kava makes me feel, so I decided to try kratom instead. The gentleman taking my order described the different teas as anti-inflammatory, etc., but he did not mention how psychoactive kratom can be or the possible side effects.

I ordered the 8 oz kratom tea. After drinking it, I immediately started to dissociate. My symptoms got worse and worse. When I got home, I felt extremely anxious and nauseous. I’m not an anxious person, but it brought me close to a panic attack. This morning, I still feel hungover, with a terrible headache.

From what I’ve since read, these are very common side effects of kratom:

Nausea, vomiting

Dizziness or drowsiness

Rapid heartbeat

Sweating

Headaches

Anxiety or jitteriness

Sedation

I was surprised that none of this was disclosed — not on the menu, signage, or by staff. I also noticed there’s almost no food served, which can make strong psychoactive effects harder to manage. I made sure to drink a lot of water, but it didn’t seem to help offset the intensity of the reaction.

I’m writing not to complain for the sake of it, but to express serious concern. I hope you’ll consider warning customers more clearly about kratom’s effects and dosage strength, especially for first-time users. I kid, Noble House and it’s wonderful owners Brian & Susan are warm, welcoming and just genuine salt of the earth who are providing an enriching experience in a cosy downhome atmosphere with beautiful staff (Sebastian) and a safe sober space adding to and enhancing what’s offered in Fairfield. Great addition to the community....

This place is honestly amazing. I am visiting considering moving to this area and this place made me feel welcome immediately. Noble House has the most genuine, fun, and peaceful vibe and the people are so wonderful and welcoming. I went in for Saturday Karaoke and had a blast! I had the kava lemonade drink (not sure what it’s really called) and a kava shot and both were wonderful....
