We’re not wasting our money anymore… my boyfriend and I have been ordering take out from here every so often over the past two years. Today was our 2 year anniversary and we wanted to have a nice meal out, so we dined in. This was our last time eating there or ordering their food. We had the worst service, overcharged on our bill, and some of the dishes we always get tasted off. Our waitress had a bad attitude/giving dirty looks and really ignored us most of the time. Once we got the bill both of us were shocked and confused by the total. We got: two ChiChas, one papa la huancinia, one ceviche mixto, and one arroz con mariscoz… our check was $84!?!? What in the world?! Both of us totaled up the prices written on the bill but it just still didn’t make sense. Any time we’ve gotten take out it’s usually around $50-60 for almost exactly the same order. Once we paid and left we looked up the “menu,” (which are actually just pictures of the menu on google other customers have posted) to double check the prices listed versus what we paid. We were charged extra on our bill for our entrees—that much we know, but the appetizer (papa la huancina) wasn’t shown in any pictures online so we don’t know how much it was listed on the menu vs. what we were charged. We were charged $17 for two non-alcoholic fruit drinks (chichas)… and on top of that had terrible service in a restaurant that doesn’t have any kind of inviting atmosphere or updated decor/aesthetic— it’s dark, musty and weirdly spaced out and not updated and clean-ish but feels dingy. There have been soo many times we’ve tried to order take out and they’ve been closed when online says their supposed to be open; times we have called to order and they’ve said they are closed for a private event/not accepting takeout; times we’ve called to place an order and they just never answer and they phone rings indefinitely; and just generally inconsistent hours and closing randomly without any notice or explanation.
Our experience tonight was the last one and we are very disappointed and feel robbed. We will be making our own ceviche from now on and attempting to find a better Peruvian restaurant—if not in our area then we’ll just try to find an authentic one when we travel. They are running their business poorly and I’m shocked it’s lasted this long after seeing how slow it is at dinner time majority of the time and how long it’s been like this (based on looking at the negative reviews now, dating several years back to now). I wish we would have just gone to a fancy restaurant for our anniversary where we would have enjoyed the atmosphere and had great customer service.
Goodbye Sabor Perunao and we hope you guys get it together, but we’re not sticking around...

For example if you don't like seafood you will like seafood after they give you a plate of seafood if you don't like a steak you will like steak the way that they made it because they make it so good. There are certain things that taste really good in the restaurant but not good if you get it to take home. This is absolutely normal I grew up eating Peruvian food and it's deliciously addictive. But for example Papa Rellena gets a bit soft if you don't eat it right away. This is the kind of thing that you want to eat at the restaurant it'll be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside if you eat it at the restaurant but if you take it home, it loses a little bit of the crispiness. The dishes that you can take home are dishes like Seco de carne. Seco de carne comes with beans and rice and a spicy green sauce and onions.. I'm telling you it is delicious the meat is so soft it starts to fall apart almost as soon as you touch it with your fork. Another thing that's really good to take home is the tamales. Tamales will stay good in the restaurant, they will also stay good until you make your trip home, you just put it in the refrigerator stays good, take it out when you're ready to eat. Ceviche is one of those things that you have to eat at the restaurant too. Well I could go on and on about Peruvian food. But I'll stop typing now. The point is Peruvian food is absolutely amazing addictively good undeniably delicious and you will not regret going to Sabor Peruano. If you're not sure what to order ask for pictures or ask the waiter to explain to you what the dish consists of. No matter what you get, the chances of you getting something that you won't like are like less than 1%. Everything on the menu is absolutely amazing, just...
Read moreThis was our first Peruvian experience. It was a good time. If we had gotten there earlier we would have had more time to look at the menu. They have a menu that has many many items on it. It is not a hard menu but never having eaten here we did a fair amount of reading to find out what was what. It was a fun atmosphere. People were spread out pretty far from each other giving everyone kind of their own privacy to talk without having to shout over other tables. I had the seafood and steamed rice. I opted not to have the french fries. Fries, steamed rice comes with a lot of the meals. You are able to change them out for other items though. We definitely like that we were not charged to swap out side dishes. They have a sauce made up of Habaneros and jalapenos that you mix with mayo and ketchup. Well we didn't know and thought it was mustard. There was no mistaking that it was hot. My dad and I fought through the heat with quivering lips and a numb tongue. Once we asked about it and it was explained how to eat it, it tasted really good. The burning went away once we started eating our entrées. I'm looking forward to going back again. They have all kinds of live music lined up and its posted on the front doors and in the bathrooms. The place is big enough to dance here as well. As big as it is i cannot call it a hidden gem. But I will say if you like trying new foods please swing by and try this place. Our waiter didn't speak much English but it was good enough to understand what he was saying. If you speak Spanish then you are good to go. Enjoy another culture and sit back and embrace something new. I love looking at places from the eyes of a tourist. It truly opens me up to an entitle new world without having to travel across the globe. That will be coming soon...
