Stumptown Ales offers a relaxed, unpretentious brewery experience that feels rooted in what made early craft beer culture special. It’s a welcoming space that’s ideal for solo visitors, couples, or small groups of friends. The atmosphere is low-key and community-oriented, with a bartender who was not only friendly but clearly passionate about both beer and sci-fi—always a fun combo for us. The beer menu during our visit leaned heavily into IPAs, with Multiple Hopgasms standing out as a highlight. This New England–style IPA was a full-on juice bomb, packed with Citra and Mosaic hops, offering a smooth and aromatic pour without overwhelming bitterness. The kitchen serves up small bites like pierogies, pepperoni rolls, and 12" pizzas—simple but satisfying options to pair with a pint. Stumptown also keeps things interesting with regular events, including what appeared to be a cheeky book club (yes, the calendar did say “SMUT”). It’s clear that the brewery fosters a sense of fun and connection with its regulars.

I have mixed feelings when it comes to Stumptown Ales. Their original location in Davis, WV lacks the feeling of a brewery, it’s stuffy, cramped, and not family friendly. Their location in Fairmont is better. It’s set up to be roomier, there is more conversation amount patrons, but still not a family friendly atmosphere. It is good for a date with your partner. They have a large selection of brews fitting many taste. I suggest pacing yourself and getting half pours to taste more options. The establishment is clean and charming with comfy seats and some board games.

Huge fan of this place. Was driving through WV and popped in- didn’t want to leave! I loved the beers and the staff were the friendliest folks out there. Left with a bunch of new friends, and I highly recommend.
