PATRONS BE WARNED. Stouts is a good place for locals, with decent food and good selection of beers and whiskey. I work at the UMN and it is a great place for a happy hour with a few colleagues. BUT - there is a real problem with parking that has to be addressed. I was towed from the parking lot because I was in a spot for Premier Health. I thought it was closed, no other spots. I should have left and went home but I had my disabled brother with me who likes to have dinner there. Left to bring him home and the vehicle was towed. There was another car being towed while I looked for my car. I did walk back into Stouts to let them know that they were towing cars. They should definitely have a sign up and let customers know when they enter. What a hassle. It is the next morning and I have to wait until Premier Health opens to find out where my car was towed? It is not in a St. Paul city lot. What is wrong with Falcon Heights? Either require enough parking for the capacity of the location or do not allow towing from a lot. Towing from a lot? St. Paul does not allow that without a ticket and then a 4 hour waiting period. Not sure if I will go back there. Patrons be warned, spots at Premier Health will tow even after...
Read moreMet some friends here for drinks and appetizers recently. I ordered the chicken tenders and fried shrimp. The shrimp batter was lacking in flavor and had no crispiness. Also, shrimp were popcorn sized. I would gladly have taken a lot fewer shrimp but bigger in size (e.g. 26-30/pound size). The dipping sauces were good. The chicken tenders had the opposite issue. They were quite large and crispy but awfully dry. Again, the dipping sauce was okay. Someone else ordered the cheese curds and, of the three, these were arguably the best.
On the plus side, our server, Ashley, was great! Top notch service all around. The happy hour here is a solid value. I got a pint of Finegan's Ale and two shots of Jameson for 20 bucks.
One warning: happy hour can get busy and loud here. So, just be ready to lean in to hear members of dining party. But it's not "rowdy" loud, just lots of people having a good time.
This is not my first trip here and it won't be my last. I've been coming here now and then...
Read moreStouts is my favorite neighborhood pub. It has dozens of beers on tap and even more in bottles. Great place for a burger and some beer. The appetizers were also very tasty. I have been here a dozen or so times now and have not yet had a bad experience with the service, or food. Never had the pizza but it is cooked in a wood fire brick oven and it looks amazing!( Snuck a peek and a quick whiff walking by being nosy and curious:) ) Dark wood, leather atmosphere, very cozy/ laid back chill spot. Can get rowdy later in the day on the weekends, or if there is a particular Minnesota sports team not performing up to our "high" standards... A good amount of flat screen TV's, but not too many where it becomes obnoxious. Private party room, booths, tables, bar and patio seating, attractive waitresses, for the girls, yes the men are "classy" here. Good place for a younger and older crowd. I can't describe it all, you'll just have to stop by and have the good ol' Stouts experience a...
