As a seasoned culinary explorer, I am constantly on the hunt for exceptional sushi. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Takumi in Falls Church, Virginia and I must say, it was an unforgettable experience. From start to finish, every bite was a harmonious blend of flavors and textures, and the spicy scallop roll was nothing short of exceptional. The sushi chef's meticulous attention to detail was evident in every dish. The fish was impeccably fresh and expertly sliced to showcase its unique characteristics. The rice was cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of vinegar and sweetness. Each roll was elegantly crafted and presented, a true work of art. But it was the spicy scallop roll that stole the show. The tender, buttery scallops were perfectly complemented by a spicy kick that lingered on the palate, leaving me craving more. The roll itself was beautifully crafted, with a delicate balance of flavors and textures that perfectly complemented the star ingredient. It's not often that I find myself at a loss for words when it comes to sushi, but Takumi truly left me speechless. The attention to detail and commitment to excellence were evident in every dish, making it one of the best sushi experiences I've ever had. If you're a sushi lover, Takumi is an absolute must-visit.

This small unassuming shop has the best Sushi I have ever had stateside. It was more like a dream than a dining experience. If you didn't know exactly where this shop was/is you would never know the wonder contained within. Even knowing where it was from a friend and Google maps I walked past the entrance twice. But sandwiched between a Thai food joint and a vape shop is this portal to the land of exquisite sushi. It can only be described as the most pleasant and calming dining experience I have ever had. Between the incredibly attentive hostesses--who were always on hand for questions, assistance, and to top off your sake cup--and the superior quality of the dishes served, sprinkled with the cute, simple, and clean authentic Japanese aesthenic. I cannot recommend this place enough. We may have paid a premium for this experience, but was it worth it? One hundred times yes. Will I be taking all of my friends here in the near future so they can experience the wonder as well? Also yes, and very soon.

Best of the Best. I have been in the Arlington / DC area for past week. Have eaten very well but Tekuma was the best meal till now. It’s a very authentic Japanese restaurant from the menu to the layout to the level of service. I’ve gotten quite tired of “Japanese” restaurants in the US that are a fusion with Chinese or Korean food. Or even Mexican or Peruvian. This place is the real deal. I sat at the sushi counter and could clearly see first-hand how fresh their fish is. I ordered a selection of nigiri (only the hotate was slightly disappointing - all the rest was excellent). The eel nigiri and the hamachi with lime zest were the standouts. The seaweed salad was also delicious as was their miso soup (full of seaweed). The crunchy shrimp roll was recommended by the staff and was an excellent suggestion. A very impressive meal - with professional / friendly service. Excellent value for the quality of their food. This place gets busy. So best to book a table.

Takumi is an absolute gem nestled in the heart of Falls Church, VA, and it truly deserves every single one of its five stars. From the moment you step inside this culinary haven, you are greeted with an ambiance that exudes warmth, sophistication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

We have been dining at Takumi for over 2 years. Typically on average once per month, but not as often during the worst of the pandemic. The service was alway very good and the food outstanding.

Yesterday (11/27/21), five of us had dinner. Our reservation was at 6:30 and we were promptly seated even though we arrived early at about 6:20. The staff is always pleasant. The restaurant was full and the staff was filling numerous takeout orders.

We ordered our meals, including the entrees, at about 6:35. The salads and Miso soup were served promptly. At 7:20, we still had not been served our entrees. I asked our server when the food would be served and her response was a giggle. I asked another server who said she would check, but never responded after that. At 7:35, still with no food, I walked over to speak with the manager. I indicated that we were considering leaving. She said she would check on the status of our order. The food arrived at 7:40. As usual, it was very good.

We never received a response from the manager or any form of “apologies for the delay” from the servers or the manager. There were other tables also waiting quite a long time. It appears that the restaurant does not prioritize serving dine-in customers over filling take-out orders. Any restaurant can have an off night. But, at least a cogent response from the servers or managers would have helped.

We were very disappointed in the service and the attitude...
