I’ve been coming to Perkins for years, mostly out of nostalgia and a love of a solid diner breakfast. But lately, I’ve noticed a strange phenomenon: the pancakes have been slowly disappearing... like a magic trick, but without the fun.
Let’s talk pancakes — one of the cheapest foods on earth to make. Eggs, flour, milk, and heat. Yet somehow, Perkins has managed to double the price while cutting the portion in half. It's like I'm paying steakhouse prices for two silver-dollar pancakes and a splash of syrup that wouldn’t hydrate a waffle.
I get that prices are going up everywhere — I’m not mad about the cost going up. But the sneaky way the portions have shrunk? That’s the insult. Just be honest. If you need to charge more, fine. But don’t pretend the pancake plate is the same when you’ve clearly pulled a culinary disappearing act. Just straight up disrespectful to the consumer!
I left hungrier than when I arrived and mildly offended that Perkins thinks I wouldn’t notice.
Here’s an idea: either bring back the original portion or offer a “Honest Pancakes” menu where I at least know what I’m paying for. Until then, I’ll be flipping my own pancakes at home — cheaper, fluffier, and not half a portion shy...
Read moreEdit: stopped by again, this time they were open. Got the chicken strip dinner with mac-n-chz and tots. The tots were MASSIVELY overcooked. Edible, but super crispy with zero flavor. The chix strips were very good. The mac-n-chz was inedible. I don't know how mac-n-chz can be so bad. It was almost impressive. I didn't send my food back. I probably should've but it was near closing time and I didnt want to be that guy. And to be fair, the waitress was great and I'm sure she would've made it right. I was the only one at the table who didn't like their food. The strawberry breakfasts went over really well. And everyone else seemed content. You know what Perkins fare is. If you like it, this Perkins is fine. If you don't, you won't be impressed. Just stay far far away from the mac-n-chz.
Stopped by at 8:15 pm. They were closed. 8pm is too early to close for a family restaurant. Yeah, maybe it isn't fair to rate them harshly for that, but...
Read moreI've been coming to this Perkins for years. The service has always been great. But, recently, it seems the kitchen has become a frat house. On 3 separate occasions I've heard expletive filled tirades coming from the kitchen. There was no mistaking the voice, it was the same every time. Bullying, bragging and even threatening violence against his coworkers. Tuesday is kids eat free night. You can imagine my disgust, while eating with my children, and they have to hear vulgarities. Obviously, I thought a person like that would be taken care of by management. So you can imagine my surprise when I was dining this evening and heard another, slightly quieter string of obscenities from the very same voice. This marked the last time I dine at this location. The food was poorly made which isn't a surprise given the level of unprofessionalism and lack of discipline and control demonstrated on 4 separate occasions. This is NOT a family friendly...
