Even though Gift of India has been around for 3 years, I had no idea this place existed in Farmington Hills.
I met one of the owners on Sunday, July 26, 2020. He moved from India to USA 6 years ago and then took ownership 3 years ago. Syed took the time to meet me, explain through the menu items, and told me his plans of expansion, which will include a dine-in area plus unique foods you won't find elsewhere.
The only similar place that has Indian fast food that I have been to is Jitis Indian Fusion Food, so I was excited to taste and compare.
Syed said his restaurant specializes in the wraps and rolls and for the large pizza, you can get half and half. So I ordered what he suggested.
The lady said her favorite roll is the lamb keema and that if I wanted to try a vegetarian version, to try the chole. I rarely eat lamb, but when there is lamb option, I definitely gotta try! As for chole, I never had it in a wrap before so had to give it a try too! You also can't have an Indian meal with chaat, so got some pani puri too!
Syed introduced me to a new fruit I never knew existed called chikoo. Chikoo is a fruit that Syed imports from India then its made into a shake. Then it's topped with milk. He says you can't find chikoo shake anywhere else in Michigan!
I gotta say the food was amazing! As for splitting half and half on the pizza, what a great idea. The chicken for the chicken tikka was marinated perfectly and juicy too! Paneer chunks were cut bite sized. And even when you have leftovers, it still tasted as good. For the chole wrap, I was unsure of the idea since chole is usually more watery but chickpea was cooked through and the sauce was thick that it stayed in the wrap! I have known about mango lassi and I see it in every Indian restaurant but I have to admit, I never tasted it before. It sure is delicious. But the chikoo shake wowed me even more! I recommend anyone to try it if you visit!
I highly recommend this place for anyone who wants authentic Indian food! Plus, everyone there...
Read moreI want to say I really hate writing bad reviews, and I don't often do it unless I want to warn others. My girlfriend and I were in the mood for Pizzawala's (Canton, MI), but live in this area and wanted to stay in tonight.
We ordered a half and half pizza with Chicken Tikka and Chicken Masala and a Mango Lassi (drink). When picking up, the guy at the counter asked if we wanted drizzle and cilantro which we said yes to.
We made it back home in 10 minutes and the pizza was luke warm. The chicken was very dry (to the point of picking it off). It tasted like it was cooked earlier and reheated. Part of the crust wasn't cooked on one slice and felt cold to the touch. One of the other reviewers said the pizza here is like "Little Caesars with chicken" and they aren't far off the mark. The pizza tastes like a frozen cheese pizza that they reheated and added reheated chicken to. The crust was floppy and soft.
Unfortunately the drink wasn't as good as the mango Lassi we normally order from restaurants. It tasted like Danimal's yogurt with mango flavoring. It was the only thing from the order we finished.
The drizzle and cilantro made the pizza somewhat edible but after a slice and a half each we couldn't bring ourselves to eat anymore. For $28.30 for a pizza ($21.99) and drink ($4.99) I can't recommend this place when a frozen pizza would do better. Pizzawala's large is only $20.99 and...
Read moreThe mean woman who answers the phone to take orders should be fired and should not be given any opportunity to answer calls again. She was THAT HORRIBLE. If this place goes out of business, she will be the reason for it, if you keep her. Now I was going through all the bad reviews in here and all those were about this “extremely mean” lady. If she is the owner of this place then you might not have options to take actions against her, but if she is a random employee, it is high time to take an action for her. What are you waiting for? Listen to the customers now!
Update: Management team, you mentioned that part of this happened due to miscommunication. Did you ask it from that woman? Sure, she will give many excuses to cover herself. But there’s nothing to do here about miscommunication. It is pure rudeness. For example, she cannot get mad when we ask if they have anything available for kids! You know our kids should eat too, if you do not have anything at least say it “politely”. This is only one example. I clearly read the menu before I ordered the food and we asked questions to get more information. It is her duty to satisfy the customer. Again, this type of customer service is not...
