JP's Tavern — Restaurant in Federal Way

TL;DR - Been coming here for years and we were treated so poorly by the staff - Ashley (so she said was her name) is not someone we have been served by before. She shouted at us after walking away (so everyone looked), when we asked what she was talking about she said she was done with us. I have seen this type of review before but wow, it really is only a matter of time before they profile you here. Stay away!!

Long story but necessary details! We’ve been coming to JP’s since we moved here in 2019 and have never had an experience as horrible as the one we had last night. Ashley (I’m certain she’s been described in the review here as the one in plaid and a trucker hat) locked eyes with us 3x before rolling her eyes and coming to our table saying “what do you guys want?”. We aren’t people who jump to assumptions, so we assumed she just had a rough day. After asking for two waters she sped walked away from us without a word. At this point I quickly asked if we could order some drinks - from a distance. With a heavy sigh she said well yeah, where are your ID’s? After struggling to get my ID out of my wallet (let’s be real, wallets are a struggle) she angrily left and scoffed under her breath that we didn’t need to have an attitude. I said, “excuse me?” At which point she was 10ish feet away and nearly screamed “you don’t have to be rude!!”. I had immediate flashbacks of every Karen video I’ve ever seen where the person of color is a mile away and she’s the victim. She kept saying nonsense as she walked away at which point I went up to the bar and asked why she felt the need to speak to us that way. She said because she can and she wasn’t going to deal with us anymore and said “Ryan will deal with you guys”. Assuming Ryan was the manager we said “Hi Ryan, can we talk about what just happened?” He ignored us or, if given the benefit of the doubt, didn’t hear us over the two other people at the bar….. when we finally got his attention he said “I don’t know why everyone is mad at me, I’m not the manager”. We advised him that our server, Ashley, sent us his way and he said it was because she was off the clock. This was at 1045pm as she continued to serve other tables. Ryan literally slowly backed away at which point another employee, Samantha, said she would take over. Whether or not Samantha cared, she listened. She said bartenders (her and Ryan) were the managers when the actual managers were not around. She apologized for the behavior we experienced. Unfortunately it was already so bad we left and made our way to Scoreboard instead. She gave us the manager's name but no contact info - she said she couldn’t hand it out but didn’t take mine either? She said “jp is the owner” and that was that. No further effort to have a manager follow up with loyal patrons. Well JP - what is the affiliation you want your bar to have? I spend a lot of money over the past couple years at JP's Tavern when I order food to go when I get home the order is always wrong. This is the most racist place that I know of in Federal Way. I get treated very badly by the bartenders with blonde hair I badly talk to when I come in and I bother nobody then when I say something to somebody they want to talk to me like I'm nothing. They have a black manager that's very nice but has been talked very badly about by many of the white conservatives that come in there JP does not have to ever worry about me stepping in their establishment ever again. I've spent over $1,000 in that place over the past couple years. I never complain about prices just what they sent me home with. I don't even I don't even get a spoon in the bag for my soup. If I order chicken wings and by the time I get the food home all the raw vegetables are wilted and slimy. But you can't say nothing to white people because of your color but I can assure you if I was white they would jump all over and especially if I was a man they would jump all over...

Wow! I was very pleased. Haven't been here in years. Hubby and I went last night for dinner and were really very impressed with the food and service. Actually, sorry no photos this time as the food was so yummy we gobbled b4 I remembered to take pics. Hubby had the bacon wrapped meatloaf with mashed potatoes . It was tasty. I did try several bites!👍😋😊 Oh and!!!!! Real mashed potatoes! I had the grilled bacon ranch sandwich and that was fantastic! I also had their steak chili and was just blown away! Service was friendly and attentive. Hot day and we were drinking both waters and diet coke. Never were our glasses empty. The reason for the 4 and not 5 on the atmosphere is one has to remember that this is a tavern with all the flamboyant sports fans, etc. And!!! The Kraken were playing in the Stanley Cup Play Offs. I get it. I'm a fan too. But, not a quiet place with your favorite corner table to talk. All that being said thinking that this is going on our regular rotation! Thanks all for the great food and...
