According to Google maps I haven't eaten here in about 6 years, So my review may not reflect the current situation at the Villa.
Tacos: They are solid, nothing spectacular. I'd usually order carnitas and lengua. (6.5/10).
Quesadillas: If you've had a good, hearty quesadilla, then you'll know what to expect from Los Bigotes. Again, nothing spectacular. (7/10).
Wet Burritos: This is where they start to shine. I'd venture to say that these are the best wet burritos in the south sound, maybe Washington. Substantial in every way, they don't load up on cheap fillers. The score is only limited by your imagination at the salsa bar, which brings me to my final category. (9.5/10).
Salsa bar: Every score above can easily be taken up a point through skilled navigation of the ample selection and robust flavors of their salsa bar. Touting various levels of heat and acidity, all of their salsas bring something to the table. For me, one stands above the rest though. Their avocado salsa has left me yearning for a close 2nd all over the country, with valiant efforts falling short time after time. I've even tried my hand at a couple of recipes I found on the internet myself. 10/10
All in all, it's worth stopping in for the wet burritos, and the salsa makes everything else viable as...
Read moreAt a first glance you might look at this place and think it is a "DIVE" but once you get inside it is cozy and inviting. It has some Mexican memorabilia on the walls and a flat screen at each end so no matter where you sit you can see the TV. The Service is great but the food here is the "ultimate show stopper"....I had the Carne Asada which they ask how you want your steak cooked (never been asked that at a Mexican restaurant before). It came with all the fixings and was perfect. My son opted for the wet chicken burrito and said he would be coming here instead of Chipotle (life changer for him too). I f I didn't drive I would take 4 buses to get here, yes it's that good!!! 5 stars on the salsa bar with veggies and 5 heat levels of salsa....mmmmm this place is my new go to spot for awesome Mexican food fast made from scratch and they don't advertise so it's never packed but don't that let fool you, they surpass Azteca and El Torritos by far. Next time I go I will be trying the Torta, I can't wait! The waitress even gave me a bag of extra chips for the road without asking for them, and no charge! No one does that anymore!!!!! This place has the right...
Read moreA friendly and hopping neighborhood establishment that serves generous, yet tasty portions with fast service. Would recommend swinging on through if you're in the neighborhood, but watch out, the turn to get in sneaks up on you.
I had the camarones a la diabla and found them to be optimal in their spice (I am of South East Asian heritage and consider myself a medium in terms of spice tolerance) to flavor ratio. Their salsas tasted incredibly bright and fresh, (the secret to getting the green salsa out of the container is to pop the lid), and the horchata was full of that creamy cinnamon flavor you can only find in authentic restaurants.
The location is a bit cramped which gives it an intimate, hole in the wall feel which is absolutely my jam but might not be to your liking if you're reading this during the Phase 2/3 COVID-19 times. Fortunately, they offer take out/to go service and are prompt in getting you taken care of.
All said - Los Bigotes de Villa is a great family Mexican restaurant and I will definitely make a point of paying them another visit when my travels take me through their...
