My grandkids had a 1/2 day of school today, so I told them we would stop at the Fenton Deli and take lunch home. As we stood in line, I had them figure out what they wanted, which they did, but one of them had a question about what he could put on his sandwich. When it was our turn, the two boys told the owner behind the glass that they wanted the philly cheese steak and what they would like on their sub. He was very agitated that they were not answering his questions the way he wanted them to. The younger one (9 years old) had told him what he didn’t want on his sub and the owner, very sternly, told him to listen to what was on it and tell him what he wanted on it. I wasn’t sure why an owner of a business could not understand that he wanted the philly with the following items. The 11 year old stepped up and told him that he wanted the Phillips with no peppers. He did the same thing to him. We moved down the line and waited to tell them what I wanted on my salad and what I wanted on my husbands Reuben. I will say that the girl who helped us with this was very helpful and friendly. Our next step was to pay. The female owner asked me what we had. I listed the 4 items individually. She questioned me on what I was telling her, so I told her again. She looked at the girl who had helped me and asked her what we had. The girl told her that we had a medium salad, a medium Reuben and she didn’t know what else. She looked at me and asked me again what we had. I once again listed the 4 items individually. She informed that I had only given her 3 items and we had 4. I told her that I had given her 4. She read them back to me and I told her that she was missing a philly cheese steak. She said no...I got that. I told her that there were 2. She told me a total...I paid by credit card and as I went to step away and wait for our order, I asked her if I could get an extra dressing. She informed me that for 75 cents I could. I told her no thank you that I would use what I have at home. The boys and I stepped to the side and waited. When she had my salad bagged, she held up to dressings and told me that 2 dressings came with my salad and would that be enough. I told her yes and then she proceeded to make a comment that I wasn’t sure that I had heard her right. I asked her what she said, she ignored me. I asked her again what she said and she told me that if two were good then that should stop me from making my comments. I said wow...you would say that to a customer. She told me absolutely she would because I was running my mouth. As I told her that I would never spend a dime in The Fenton Deli again, her husband came and stood behind her like he was ready for a fight. The boys and I took our food and left. I will continue to run my mouth about this business from this point on. I’ve had so many people tell me how rude the owners and some of the employees are. Well I witnessed it first hand. My bill was $42.00 for 4 items. The place could use a good cleaning. The owners should definitely not be dealing with customers. My suggestion to them...it’s time to sell and move on. I will always be a buy local person. Not when it comes to this place. They are definitely the...
Read moreBeing local and living right around the corner, we typically like to support our local businesses, especially when they strive on customer service and quality. This last summer I would have given a 5 star review but not tonight.
We stopped here tonight on our way back home from a movie. My wife being native to Philadelphia, thought she'd go for a Philly Cheese steak, providing, this place probably could be the only place to actually pull it off... who might know what they're doing. The owner was making the food this night.
My wife asked for American cheese and the owner stated he didn't carry American cheese and to look at a list of cheese options. Out of about 4 cheese options , all he had was mild cheddar, which negates the idea of even bothering to look at cheese options. So the owner stated, all he had was mild chedder.
So my stated, if there's no other choice, then she'll just take the mild chedder. So while crafting what became a hack job of a Philly Cheese Steak (trust us, we know what that entails, being from Philly), he started to craft the tuna sub my wife requested.
When requesting what she wanted on it, he only put two things of what she requested on it and then responded with a snarky attitude, that the other toppings are to be requested from another employee... which just seemed confusing. While crafting the tuna sandwhich he ran out of Tuna and started to thin out the ingredients that he had on the large piece of bread and spread the tiny bit of tuna, then slid it down to another girl to throw pickles on it.
So my wife asked the female if she was going to sautee the meat, onion and peppers for the Philly cheese steak and she replied no. My wife apologetically stated that she's never seen a Philly Cheese Steak presented the way it was being presented... my wife stated sorry that she just wanted the tuna sub and not the cheese steak (if you want to call it that).
So the owner comes over to see what the problem was. He gave my wife a glare and asked what the problem was. My wife stated she's never had a cheese steak where the meat, onion and peppers weren't sauteed and served raw. So she asked if she could just have the tuna sub (which was spread thin due to lack of products). The owners reply per verbatim "you don't have to take any of my sandwiches".
Her response was just a simple "fine, thanks for nothing" and left without saying much due to having our 5 year old with us.
Owner,
You may have a good customer service base and decent reviews and or following. Just note though, the demeanor such as you projected tonight, can run your business right in the dirt too. Fenton brings you plenty of competition and options. You sir, whom had a loyal customer, just lost 2. I'll be sure to explain to any locals in conversation about food of your lousy...
Read moreI went to the Fenton Deli for the first time this week. We placed our order and went to pay and noticed a business card size note on the back of the cash register stating that there is a 3.99% up charge for using a credit card. Spoke with the owner to share customer feedback and let him know that I don’t like surprises like that and that as a small business owner myself I understand that the fee charged by card services is just the price of doing business. The owner decided to try several times to start an argument by rudely yelling out at different times “you could pay cash” “you’ll miss out on good food” and challenging me on if I actually was a small business owner. He finally shut up when I let him and everyone else know that he’ll be out of business within six months after the New Jersey Mike’s opens on Owen Rd. I don intend to follow up with credit card services as laws changed about five years ago allowing businesses to charge a fee to cover the cost of card processing but they are not allowed to turn a profit by doing so. The Fenton Deli charges 3.99% which is about 2% more than they are being charged to provide the service. This is a clear violation of the law. I won’t be back and will be happy. To share my experience with everyone...
