Hello good people of Ferndale,, if this place is your idea of good Mexican food then I am worried about you.. TASTELESS is the key word here.. You would think a Mexican restaurant that has been in biz 29 years would have better food. I thought I would try a sampling so ordered one of the more expensive dishes...the $25 platter with an Enchilada, Tostada, tamale. I asked the waiter if the tamales were housemade & was assured 👍 oh yes. I have eaten food all over Mexico & Baja & never had a drier tamale. It was like no tamale I have ever had...totally tasteless, dry pork stuffed in a loose corn battered sack. Not sure what it was but this was NOT a tamale...it had some skimpy flavorless sauce over it... And GOD FORBID...The one one thing that is impossible to screw up in a Mexican restaurant, RIGHT? The beans were a sacrilege to Mexican food. A big glob of tasteless, colorless, lukewarm pinto's. The tostada & enchilada were worse than fast food. I was choking with the lack of moisture in the tamale, etc Usually they will ask when they serve the food if you want more salsa... I kept trying to flag someone down to get MORE salsa to try to wash the tamale down...finally got it after the meal was thru (to add insult to injury I discovered they charged me 65cents EXTRA on my bill for that salsa)! Excuse me while I choke! When I asked Chuy the waiter why my final bill was more than the original I was first presented, he apologized saying due to inflation there was an additional 3% charge for using my DEBIT card? WHAAAT? Never have I seen a restaurant that unabashedly charges an extra 3% where debit cards are used, same as cash. I noticed the owners list 3 other restaurants they own on the menu...maybe the original owners who started this restaurant were bought out?. which happens with a longstanding popular place but 9 out of 10 times... the food goes downhill. I am looking for any explanation for why a place with nice Mexican ambiance like this has such terrible food. Downright...

There was a large group of 25 people that I was to be joining at 5:30 pm but got there early to take advantage of $2.00 appetizers and $1.00 on drinks (happy Hour till 5pm) I ordered the taquitos and a margarita, on happy hour and waited for the group. I ordered a full dinner meal (Not on Happy Hour). when bill arrived, I had been charged full price for the appetizer and full price for the margarita. even though the waiter agreed to give me happy hour pricing earlier. I brought that to the attention of the waiter he said no problem I take care of it. When he returned, he had taken %10 off the whole bill which amounted to $2.20 still left me still overpaying $6.00 no apology and I DONT CARE Attitude. The Tamale- Mostly masa not hardly any meat. If you dont mind the attitude and the soso food it isn't a bad place. ...
Read moreIt pains me to say that a local staple in our community has gone to heck in a hand basket. The food was horrible. The beans tasted like they were sitting in a pot, burning, for days. My son ordered the appetizer quesadilla and it was obviously microwaved, and the chicken was oozing all over. It was so unappetizing, he took a few bites and gave up. The meat is tasteless. I had a single slice of tomato on my tostada and the meat/bean combo tasted like it had gone bad. I took 2 bites and gave up. There was no attempt to rectify the situation. Just an excuse of "the chicken is cooked in juice so it's wet." I wouldn't feed the meat to my dog - my husband powered through his, so we will see how his stomach handles that mess, but my guess is Taco Bell would have been the safer bet for cheap Mexican food. The prices are insane and the...
