We went to Black Bear Diner last night for an RC Club meeting. Our waiter was awesome he separated our checks with no issues or hassles. They had a big table in the back room ready for us when we got there so no waiting.
The food was good and cooked properly we had a Reuben, Fish N Chips, and Chicken Strips.
I do want to let you know that if you like tempura fish in chips that this place uses panko. I was not a big fan, but it did taste good if you like the gritty kind of fried fish.
They serve beer and wine in the Restaurant but attached to the diner they have a casino with a bar. I was told that the servers do not bring mixed drinks into the restaurant but that if I wanted to go get one I could. That wasn't a big deal so I went to go get a cocktail.
Upon going to the Bar, I asked how much was a well rum and coke. It was definitely a good price I was told $2.50 I said I will take it. The bartender who was a short, older blonde lady (I wish I had got her name) made my drink. When I presented my card to her, she said, "I need cash' it wasn't nice it was short and rude like. I apologized and said I don't have cash. She then said, "We don't take cards". She rolled her eyes and gave a rude horrible loud huff/sigh and threw the drink from where I was standing into the sink halfway across the bar. I was WOW'ed, in my head I was like OK then YIKES and went back to the diner. If she had directed me to where I could have found an ATM or been nicer, I would have asked one of the people I was with if they had $3.50 in cash so that I could pay for the drink and leave a tip, but this lady was obviously having a bad day. and clearly should not have been working in a customer service position.
This would have been a perfect review with regards to the Diner and the way they took care of us but it would be nice if the Bar took Cards or if the waiter could have just added the drink to our tab and got it. This would have saved me from a terrible experience with their bar tender and would have given them some more money instead of wasting inventory. Another thing that could have stopped all this is to have a sign at the bar that says we accept cash only or if the bartender had mentioned (in this day and age) before making the drink we only accept cash, no cards, is that ok? Customer service and quality/inventory control is a big thing in the food/bar industry. Making sure that you're not pouring a drink to put in the sink is a good strategy.
I told the waiter that the bar is cash only he said he wasn't aware of that so I think that the wait staff in the diner could be trained to know this would also help in the future.
So, if you are wanting a great dining experience, go to the Black Bear Diner but make sure that if you go to the bar...
Read moreI live in Fallon and we don’t have many food options so I tend to drive to fernley to go to black bear atleast 1-2 times a week . So when I had family come to visit of course I took them here because it’s my favorite place. When we walked in we weren’t greeted (granted they never do but I just accepted it bc again this is the best food option) we stood there for a few minutes before they acknowledged us , after we get seated they take our drinks and food orders, over an hour goes by they finally bring our food , my parents food was cold , I asked for onion rings but they gave me fry’s . I said excuse me I ordered onion rings the waitress said we are out , I said shouldn’t u have told me that and asked if I wanted a different side , the waitress said well it’s supposed to come with fry’s I said but I don’t want fry’s can I have a different side then the waitress said well what do u want I said can I have a side salad with extra ranch please , my parents took a bite of the toast and said the toast is soggy and our food is cold can we just get fresh toast and we will make it work , the waitress takes the toast puts it in the MICROWAVE and brings out the toast they already took a bite of back to the table , she brought my side salad and ranch as I poured my ranch on my salad the ranch was chunky with stuff inside I asked if it was blue cheese and the waitress said no it’s bacon I told her I wanted regular ranch bc not everyone eats pork she said that is there normal ranch I said no way I come here twice a week and I came yesterday (which I did with my dad) and I have NEVER had chunky or bacon ranch before (btw I am that person who puts EVERYTHING in ranch and always need atleast 3-4 so Iv had my fair share of ranch from them and know what it’s like) she said it’s always that way , we asked for a manager we expressed our concerns 1) customer service 2)cold food (we didn’t eat , there was 2 bites from the toast gone and literally half of 1 sausage was bitten into) 3)the ranch , the manager said well if paying is an issues we got u covered. I told them it’s not the money it’s the fact I drive 30mins-40mins to eat here which I do all the time and to also be treated this way this isn’t how restaurants r ran (my mom and dad have opened restaurants in Vegas and all over ca with 40 years of experience of restaurant management so yes I can say this isn’t standard on how u treat ppl ) he sat there and said I’m sorry u feel that way , so we got up and left. I looked online and nooooo in fact they don’t put bacon in all there ranch they only put bacon ranch for special burgers or if requested . Due to the service I will never...
Read moreCutest little diner, but they do not keep their products stocked. They were out of everything Our server was polite and tried her best to help us find something, but we were not impressed with our food at all. The Western bacon cheeseburger was below average. The fries were re cooked in the fryer, and so hard we could not eat them. We ordered hash browns, bacon, and scrambled eggs with cheese cooked softly, and it all was overcooked with the hash browns being burned. The biscuit was burnt on the bottom . My boyfriend ordered ribs, and they were so hard and dried out that he could not eat them. The manager thanked us for bringing it to his attention. He did not offer to remake all of the food that was poor quality. He removed the one breakfast, and that was the most he would do. We were very disappointed and we 3/4 of us left hungry so we all left and went to Wendy's after paying our $76 bill for that was not edible. I recommend anyone that reads this review or even thinks about eating here to try another location. Black Bear Diner is one of my favorites and this location ruined it for me. We will never return. Thank you to the server for being polite and trying her best to fix the kitchen issues. I hope another restaraunt picks you up so you can get paid for the good service...
