I have had a very good experience with 8th street so far. The food is quite enjoyable, though its highlights are split between the vast salad bar and the unique, varied, and delectable pastries. If you aren't willing to eat some veggies, you're going to be a bit more disappointed. They do have burgers, fries, hotdogs, and whatnot but those greasy fast-food options are rather limited. Most complex Pizza toppings you're getting are some chicken. Though you can work with what is around you. The service there is very lovely.
For staying fit, or occasionally splurging it is a very attractive option. Even if you don't like what the specials for the salad bar, you can always make yourself a nice sandwich with what is available.
The atmosphere isn't the point of the kitchen though. It's meant to feed a good portion of a college, not be a fine dining restaurant. Not any nice and isolated seats for you? You're just going to have to ask a stranger if you can eat next to them.
That said, the place is fairly clean, I have not seen a single bug in my several days of repeated visits, and the only spots that might be slightly dirty are the tables, where there may be a stray lettuce on the rare occasion. No stains or splotches of disgusting sauce anywhere.
The music might be a tad loud for me. I like to keep my ears healthy. I'd maybe turn it down 3-5%. It can make it a little difficult to converse. Though the music is only on in the evening from what I've seen.
My main complaint though is there is nowhere to wash your hands. I get not having bathrooms in 8th street and instead having it right outside the restaurant, but I would like to have somewhere to wash my hands. There's also a sign that says to wash the fruits, even though staff wash them, but I can't find where to wash them.
All said and done, I am more than satisfied with the utilitarian purpose 8th street sets out with to equip FIU students with convenient...
Read moreDon't bother going, it's overly-packed every day of the week to the point where it takes 10 mins to find any silverware. Staff is just chilling and talking to each other even though there's no plates or cups or silverware anywhere. You might as well bring your own. The lines are so long which also makes it difficult to walk around the restaurant. Oh and good luck finding a spot to sit. It's just not worth it, the food is 4/10 at most, which is expected cause it's a buffet but it shouldn't be this much of a hassle to find a plate and a spot to sit to eat. Whoever is managing this place, what are you doing??? I never seen it...
Read more3 stars because the staff serving and cleaning are very genuine/kind; they do keep up with silverware/cleaning. BUT there isn’t always a place to sit, let alone an outlet where half of the students sit and do homework on a computer. For a school that gets funded so well the food is 4/10, luckily there’s salt and pepper at the tables to drown your food in. The only edible thing is the ice cream. Your students are paying for this, they...
