Oh how this place have fallen from grace, the racial bias I experienced is surreal as a alumni of fiu and a long time supporter of the museum from the 1st floor of the PC Building days the experience has me in disbelief it's clear that with the change in leadership twice now has affected the quality of experience last year this time I had my experienced interrupted 25mins b4 closing, which all advertised close times show 5p Sundays of which I'm well aware of. The fact that I was robbed of approximately 12mins of my time bcuz I was told I had to register, which I did, I was then told I couldn't go in with my bag, which is a purse, that I had to leave it with them, I'm floored, this was starting to feel like the store clerk following a black person around the store, then I was told wait let me review the rules with you, meanwhile a non black lady walked right pass me who was just arriving as well, no need to go over any rules with them, I go back to my car & return, guess what 3 more non black guests arrive with purses, no rules or anything but guess who was stopped again yup this black woman here who's made it clear the 1st time I'm fully aware of the museum rules, but proceeds to tell me they're closing at 445p & I made it clear all the literature including the door shows the close time & I will recoup 10 of the minutes I lost unnecessarily. I was followed in the exhibit when others were trusted to just peruse freely instead of just enjoying the beauty of art, I was reminded of the skin privilege I don't have, my degrees or past donations or support didn't matter, I was reminded of the criminality of my skin tone by a complete staff of non black Hispanics, I was treated as if I didn't belong, which is why I want it to be publicly be known since nothing was improved from last year but is worse instead. Perhaps now the higher ups will take notice & intervene, Noone should have this type of experience especially not an...
Read moreDrove down from Palm Beach County to see this alleged powerhouse of a museum. Complete disappointment. The parking for the museum was full so we had to find a lot close by that services the Adrienne Arsht center. Not a crisis. What should have tipped me off that this experience was going to be a huge letdown was the entrance up to the museum. As a pedestrian entering from Biscayne you are walking up an unfinished driveway where the drop-off area is. I gathered that the pedestrian entrance is on the south side near Museum Park. Awkward at best. The museum itself was the strangest building I've ever been in. I can't believe this was built from the ground up. It felt like a retrofitted parking garage turned museum. Nothing about navigating this place is easy. Stairwells lead to nowhere. There's absolutely ZERO flow through. Ticket prices aren't cheap and I can honestly say the best part of this museum had nothing to do with the exhibits but everything to do with the views, which were spectacular. Aside from that this place was a complete waste of an afternoon. Side note: I'm not entirely certain why reviewers are complaining about the ticket queue. You do realize you can purchase tickets online right? There's this thing called a smartphone. It's going...
Read moreVisited on Wednesday to take pictures for an article and I was able to go in with my sister who isn't a student at FIU. Today, on a Sunday, I came back with my sister and her bf because we didn't have enough time to look around the Bob Dylan exhibition before and they didn't allow them to see the Bob Dylan exhibition. I'm not sure what changed but last week the Bob Dylan exhibition was free of charge and this week there is a charge for non-FIU students. I also felt unwelcome when one of the associates accused us of trying to enter the Bob Dylan exhibition without paying. My friend was not happy with her accusation. I didn't catch the associates name but she was an older, short woman with a short haircut in the back of her head with bangs. She also wore glasses. I'm not sure if she was a manager but we did not appreciate the attitude she gave us for simply waiting to use the elevator that was close to the exhibition. Not only that, I was the only one that entered the exhibit and I am a student here so I am able to enter without paying. Had it not been for our interaction with this lady, we would have enjoyed ourselves. Normally I love coming to this museum but she was very rude to us so this time around was not...
