This place has really gone downhill. Our family has lived in the Lake Mary area for 15 years, and the quality here has consistently declined over time. After this most recent experience, it will definitely be our family’s last time “giving them another try.”
Despite recently seeing this restaurant on the news for being shut down due to health code violations, we decided to come for my sister’s birthday since it’s always been her favorite spot. We figured they would be on their best behavior after reopening — unfortunately, we were wrong.
We had a party of 12 seated in the hibachi section for the experience, but they split us into two grills. The waitress said it would be “too overwhelming” for one chef, so we expected two. Our reservation was for 7:30, but the chef didn’t start cooking until after 8:20 even though we ordered everything right away.
The soup was completely flavorless — three of our family members sent theirs back because it tasted like watered-down ginger. When the chef finally came out, there was only one. He was forced to juggle both grills, cooking one group’s food while the other sat watching their meal overcook. It was stressful and uncomfortable to watch him struggle like that.
Cross-contamination was also a serious concern. He used the same utensils for raw chicken and mixed the cooked vegetables multiple times. Most of the food was overcooked, the noodles were mushy from sitting on the grill the entire 45 minutes and several plates the meat was completely unseasoned — while others were not.
To make matters worse, the birthday girl sat at the table that received no entertainment or “hibachi show.” She literally watched the chef’s back while he focused on the other side. (Again not the chefs fault for the lack of support)
When I spoke to the manager, he showed zero concern. No apology, no effort to make things right. His attitude alone reflected exactly why this restaurant’s standards have fallen so low.
At $50 a plate (with the added gratuity) the food and service are completely unacceptable. If the health code issues don’t shut this place down again, the lack of care and quality surely will. Lake Mary is a high-end area, and this restaurant no longer measures up. After 15 years of being loyal customers, this was...
Read moreWe visited on Sunday, 5/26/19, for my husbands birthday. We frequent this restaurant often, but the last couple of times, we have been less than thrilled with the food and the service and won’t be coming back after last night. I generally don’t leave reviews, but last night was so bad, I felt compelled to so others don’t waste their money. Everyone’s main meal was sushi. We know sushi can take longer so we also ordered some appetizers and meals for the kids so they wouldn’t have to wait. All the appetizers (even soup and simple salads) took 45+ minutes to come out and the kids meals took even longer. Some of the appetizers didn’t come out at all. We were a party of 20, but we had two servers and the place was empty and well staffed (there were employees standing around talking). We waited 15+ minutes for sides, napkins, silverware, etc when asked and drink refills happened maybe once the 2 hours we were there. The sushi finally came out an hour after ordering and most of it was made incorrectly or poorly put together. At this point, we were fed up. When something was said to the waitress, she was extremely rude and said “that’s the kitchens problem, not mine.” I’ve worked in a restaurant before and I know how frustrating it can be and it really isn’t your fault when food takes a long time, but she was so nasty and rude. And she forgot to ring in multiple items and couldn’t even be bothered to refill our drinks. And there were two of them! To top it off, my husband went to go change our daughter and was greeted with a disgusting bathroom and poop all over the changing table. It was clear it had been there for a while and just like the rest of the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned in who knows how long. We asked for a manager who never came to our table. We weren’t even looking for a discount, but an apology would’ve been the right thing. This used to be one of our favorite places. I’m not sure what has happened, but the quality of food and service has gone way down and is not worth the expensive price tag. I am appalled at the state of the restaurant, the lack of caring from management, and the poor service and food quality. We will not be back. Please save your money and pick a...
Read moreThis was the place we have been going to for years for celebrations in our family and with friends. It was always top notch service and food. Do not look at this review as if I'm a complainer but look at it objectively. The last time we were there was about 3 months ago. The food was still good but for some reason it seemed like maybe portions and pieces were a little smaller. I am not allergic to anything I know of but for 3 days my entire body felt on fire and itchy like I dove into a swarm of jellyfish. Benadryl was my only rescue so something in the food was bad. I took my husband out tonight and we went there for dinner. We ordered a tuna pokey for an appetizer - raw tuna, pineapple, avocado and a sauce of sorts to put it together all for $13. The pineapple was canned and was 40% of the dish, the avocado was another 40% and then 20% was tuna. Canned pineapple??? I told the waitress to tell the chef we were disappointed, she went away and heard nothing back. I asked for the manager and he showed up in t-shirt and shorts. I told him that the item was very disappointing and he said they used canned pineapple to maintain consistency and it has been on the menu for over 6 months and no one has complained. I told him that I am complaining and it is shocking and disappointing you are defending the dish and think that if no one complains all is well. He left and we got our meal. The sashimi pieces were about half what they used to be, the food was bland and the salmon and tuna tasted flat like the mild white fish they serve. Very bland. All the while the waitress kept asking if we wanted more wine when our glasses were plainly full. After all these years of patronage, we will no longer go there. And the dish was still on the...
