Ben’s Boca Raton - here’s the review I wrote on Facebook Let’s Eat South Florida. Over 100 likes and comments that agree, this location’s food quality and related has gone downhill. What happened to Ben’s Deli in Boca Raton - on a Wednesday night, not enough servers, different manager, host, hostess…….empty booths with no servers, ended up in table near the door and waited and waited and waited for the server (new also) to arrive. Pickles and cole slaw of course but pickles inedible - asked the waiter about them, he replied the supply was all no good (but they served them anyway). The taste was awful actually and they were inedible. Ordered the corned beef and cabbage Wed. special - a sandwich arrived. Sent that back, when CB plate arrived, it included half rotten potato. Eventually server returned, complained about the potato and he unwillingly brought out another, did not take the rotten one off the table. I asked to speak to the manager at cashier’s desk after filling her in on the service and food - she said she knew nothing about their pickle issue and told me I would have to wait, didn’t know how long it would take, manager was working behind the counter and she really had no interest in my dinner issues. Was it an off night, perhaps and of course Gerry was off that night.

Met with a bunch of OLD Miami Beach ("A.K.s") deli experts (Pumpernik's, Wolfie's, Rascal House) for brunch on a field trip to Boca Raton. Recommended by a high school buddy, a former Kosher meat and dairy dealer. Parking and access were easy. Masks were worn by everyone, including our outstanding waiter.Service was prompt and attentive. Menu was complete with everything one who loves deli food would expect. Their "latkes" were NY-style, thick, onion-y and crunchy. Open-faced Brisket Sandwich was fine--an eight-ounce portion on a slice of rye, thinly sliced with a flavorful gravy. The potato knish was also prepared with care, their mashed potatoes wrapped in pastry and baked were tall and generous. My daughter had the Steak Bites Panini (she's half-shicksa) that was also delicious with caramelized onion providing sweetness. The plethora of dishes on our table ran the gamut from scrambled eggs, two kinds of fish, two different kinds of knishes...more I can't remember.Prices were high, portions were fair (not exactly PLENTIFUL) but they do throw in some bread and best of all -- the outstanding cole slaw and those heavenly half-sour pickles.

I like Ben’s when I don’t mind spending a bit more than usual. Their prices are high but that’s pretty standard for Kosher places. Their food is of high quality and quite delicious. Ben’s portions are on the small side, especially with their deli meats, I.E. corned beef and pastrami. The front of the sandwich looks great but remove the top slice of bread and there’s much less toward the back, a bit deceptive in my opinion. Their sides and soup are real good too. As you enter you’ll see a deli counter. Worth stopping there on the way out to take home some knishes or noodle kugel! The service is ok, not the fastest as their servers are not the youngest 🤭. Their location is right off 441 in Boca, but they’re in a strange, hard to find location in that shopping center. I’m attaching a storefront photo in hopes it helps readers find them.

For the prices and the rushed service, you'd think that the food would be reliably delicious but the most reliable thing on the menu is the canned soda. Ordered a $15 hot dog with beans and french fried onions? Beans taste like from a can, hot dog tastes like Nathan's Frank's from the grocery store, and the bun was a tough and likely old brioche. Ordered a $30 'tender' short rib with sides? Ribs are so tough they fight back when you're eating, mashed potatoes that I swear were worse than the instant flaked potatoes I have at home, and Cole slaw that was perfectly average. Ordered a $20 brisket panini? Brisket was so dry and tough that you'd think it was a beef jerky panini, that even the paltry dressing and caramelized onions couldnt moisten. Ordered a $15 corned beef sandwich? Pretty good, actually can't complain about this one specifically -highly reccomend should you try Ben's delicatessen.

On the phone I was put on hold for 15 minutes, and in the middle of the order where I was being rushed, I was put on hold with no notice other than a quick 'one second'. To make matters worse, I ordered a hush puppy appetizer and when I got there to pick it up, 40 minutes after I ordered, but 15 minutes before my order was actually done, they informed me that they didn't have hush puppies but they put in a hot dog with sauerkraut and an order of fries and matzah ball soup. I was never informed of this substitution until I got there to pick it up. What would they have done if I were allergic to the thing they magnanimously decided to gift me instead of my order that they were out of?

I understand that supply is rough and consistency is hard to get in a restaurant, but when you're charging $15-30 for most sandwiches, you should atleast have an acceptable floor of quality. The unpredictability of quality is ONLY offset by the predictability of portion sizes (large) which even then you have variance! Take pictures though because if you tell them that your sandwich had more or less in it last time, they cut you off immediately with 'everything is weighed out so it is exactly the same'

Overall not a great experience. If large portions and a CHANCE at really good food are your style then Ben's in Boca Raton is the place for you! Otherwise,...

Ben's is amazing! It's one of the best kosher deli's in South FL and one of the best I have ever been to. The food is excellent, portions are large and it is the most consistent restaurant I have ever been to. The food looks, taste and is exactly like it was the time before.

If this wasn't enough they also have great service. The staff are attentive and professional.

Unfortunately, my visit tonight, on father's day, was almost ruined by one person Rachel Stone. Rachel Stone began to influence my visit before I made it through the front door. Rachel Stone decided that on father's day, one of the busiest days for restaurants, to train a new employee (2nd day). She spent 2 to 3 minutes training right in front of customers. She was so close to us and it was so awkward that she actually acknowledged how uncomfortable it was by addressing us directly. She said "we can all get some training." Unfortunately we were not being included in training, we were forced into watching micro managing. What's worse is that micro management is really just a pc term for criticism. Rachel Stone stood there, on a busy night, and criticized someone publicly instead of doing something that might actually help customers, coworkers or the restaurant. She decided that this new employee was opening the door for customers incorrectly. That's right, Rachel Stone is being payed to show people how to open a door and she does it on one of the busiest nights of the year. You might think that this reaction is a little extreme but I believe that people who engage in micro management, to this extreme, destroy morral with their negativity. A person who humiliates others in this way is a cancer in the work place. If Rachel Stone acted this way with customers watching and listening then she must be an absolute terror when they aren't around. If you are wondering how I can be so sure I'll explain. I have been going to Ben's regularly for the last ten years (never noticed Rachel before) and everyone has been opening the door the same way. Rachel Stone should find important things that help the business or contribute to a customer's experience instead of humiliating and belittling her...

I traveled with a friend to Ben's Deli from Hollywood Florida, and have been to this place for about 15 years. We both ordered Mushroom Barley soup, Potato Pancakes, Stuffed Cabbage and Romanian Steak. Soup came out fine but this is where the nightmare started. I made it very clear to the server called Leo, please wait till we finish our soups and Potato Pancakes before serving the main meal because I did not want to rush and the food to stay on the table and it getting cold. Leo came over while we were still in middle of eating our soups. He said dinners are ready and he is going to serve them after he promised not to put the order in. I told him give us few more minutes, my friend was rushing to eat, because he was worried the dinners were coming out. Stuffed Cabbage was not even warm it was closer to being cold. Romanian Steak which we both ordered in the past was dried up and black it was cold with what lots of grease in the plate. They used to serve it sizzling hot with steam, when it arrived at the time. The side dish of Kasha Varnishkes were dry and cold. It was reheated in microwave and tastes awful. I asked another server to call the manager over and informed him Leo our server did not listen to our request and did what he wanted to do anyway. Dinners were replaced by Corn Beef and Pastrami Sandwiches which were almost empty. Two sandwiches, Potato Pancakes and two drinks $60.00. Who is the blame here? The Owners the person making the food and the server. They have a sign on the door no $100.00 bills will not be accepted due to counterfeit issues. Ben's does not want to get ripped off by the public, but they are ripping the public off. Read the crazy reply below from Ben’s they honor special requests 😁 It should be automatic not to serve the main dinner when the customer is still on the...
