I don't write reviews often but I felt this one was needed. Firstly the food was good. Honest opinion subpar at the most. Slightly over priced but eh. Not the issue I want to speak about. Secondly (my biggest concern) was the food handling. I sat at the bar close by the window for the kitchen. After ordering I realized that every server had thier hair down and was handling food. I'm not too sure but in the service industry and handling food you had to have your hair tied back. Also the male cooks with beards had no nets on them either. Lastly none of the cooks nor the expo server ( which preps the food and was serving the plates) were wearing gloves. I watched many servers and the food expo server touch many things (including money) and then touch plates and serve them to customers. There was a whole box of gloves right next to the expo line full, it was bizzar. I never saw anyone wash thier hands and all of the staff constantly on thier phones (which is dirty as well). One more thing. I dont live in St.Johns County so this could be completely different but anywhere I've dined ths majority of servers if not all wear masks due to coivd. NONE were wearing masks period. Oh also ill add when we asked what seasoning was on the fries the cooks and server answered " we don't know they just come that way sorry".

Overall my wife and I had a pleasant experience at Canopy road. The star of the day was undoubtedly the fried green tomatoes appetizer. They were perfectly fried and the aeoli was delicious. The addition of pimento cheese was a surprise but a welcome one that added a different dimension of flavor to the dish. I ordered the B. B. Skillet over hash browns and my wife had the veggie omlet. The skillet was loaded with vegetables and the toast was perfectly toasted. My only complaint was that the hash browns weren't seasoned enough and that it could have used something like a salsa or some other acid to bring the whole dish together, but overall it was a really good plate of hash browns. My wife said her omelette really good and surprisingly large portion that was absolutely stuffed with veggies and goat cheese. She took some of the leftover pimento cheese and added it to the grits for some extra flavor. The food was out quickly and the service was friendly. A great experience that I would highly recommend to anyone in the St. Johns area.

Update 8/10/22: Changed a 3 star rating to a 5 star. Glad I came back a year later to try this place again. Huge improvement on the food! Nice presentation, and delicious. Service was great. Original review: Had high expectations based on reviews from friends and reading them online. Beautiful place. Nice seating arrangements. I was not as impressed with the food as I thought I would be. What we ordered tasted like an average brunch for the most part. The “Big Daddy” had potatoes that tasted like they were from the day before. I was not a fan of the gravy, and the film on top was proof it had been sitting. The rye toast was great. The “Goat In The Garden” was the fave. The “Avocado BLT Benny” was good. The “wow” factor wasn’t really there. Previous presentations of food I’ve seen were better than we got. Fruit was cold, fresh, and delicious. Service was fine, although food came out at separate times (party of four). Location is awesome.

I will say this is usually a good place to eat brunch for special occasions. Today was different. We awaited for approx. 40 minutes when people that arrived after us were called. My wife had to go up and let the hostess know, which she looked and apologized. We were then seated. It took around 10 minutes to get a server to greet us and get our drinks/ orders.there needs to be server training. My elderly mother in law ordered an omellete, which comes with home fries/hash brown/grits and toast. The server asked her if she wanted them. She thought it was an extra charge, so she declined. It should have been, which kind of each do you want. I gave my order for a meat omellete. She also ordered and was charged extra onions, but there were hardly any in the omlette.I told her what kind of sausage, chorizo, but it was added as an upcharge. I didn't get the ham that came with it either. I got my home fries but no toast. I didn't ask for it when I ordered, but I never declined to have what was included in the price we were charged. The drinks were constantly refilled in an expedient manner. We also ordered the Blueberry Cobbler Cakes as we usually do. The menu states it comes with cinnamon streusel. It didn't have any, and we were not informed that there was a deviation in the ordered food. There was a noticeable difference in the amount of compte so we asked if we could have some more. She brought out a small container that is used for sauces, but it was less than half full of compote, which was charged withiut notification of extra charge. For what they brought out, we would not have gotten it for extra charge. When we got close to the center, there was raw dough. The server took it back and put in another order without the cinnamon streusel to go. It was not a good experience compared...

Canopy Road Cafe is just "ok" and I doubt I'll be going back a 3rd time. This place is a step above McDonald's but not at the level of First Watch - it's more along the lines of Denny's, Cracker Barrel, and IHOP. I would even say Metro Diner is a better choice.

The hosts need to do a better job of sitting people in a more timely manner. There was a party of 9 and 2 clean tables, side by side, with silverware on them. It took the hosts 5 minutes to push the tables together before they called the party to sit. There were 3 clean tables ready before they called my party of 4 to sit.

A server attended to us promptly after we sat, but didn't check on us after the food was served, took forever to get our check, and just as long to bring back my credit card - while they went on to do other things. The QR code on the check is only meant for Apple iPhones using Apple Pay. Why would you ignore the other 87% market share of Android users, I don't know?

They use off-the-shelf grocery items (Smuckers, Libby's), don't always cook to order (eggs over medium versus over light), and the value for the price paid is just not there. I can spend the same amount and get a tastier/healthier meal at First Watch.

The restaurant is not terribly dirty, but not very clean either. There's usually food on the chairs from when they wipe off the table, food on the floor (pretty much anywhere you look), and small trash here and there (like straw paper wrappers and napkins).

Canopy Road Cafe is ok if you want to visit it at least once but no one from my family wants to go back. Hope your experience is better than the...

I found my experience eating here to be rather average. The food was mostly good and we had very good service however nothing left amazed with this place.

We went on a Saturday morning around 9am and only waited about 10 minutes before we were seated which is great as every time I pass this place there is a crowd waiting outside. Unfortunately they sat us in a booth which had just been cleaned with a rather wet and smelly rag. Sitting down on a wet booth bench with shorts on was rather unpleasant. The table was also soaking wet, which we quickly wiped down with the napkins our silverware were wrapped in.

The menu looked great! I ordered a skillet breakfast with a side of grits and my husband ordered the biscuits and gravy. Coffee was great and the food came out very quickly. My skillet came with hashbrowns even though I ordered home fries...no biggie, I love them both. Eggs cooked perfectly. Ham was delicious. The biscuits... here's the problem.... if you have biscuits and gravy on your menu the biscuits should be fresh and flaky....that is not what we got. What we got was a biscuit that had probably been baked some time ago and then reheated in the microwave before it was put on the plate. It was hard in places and we had to use a knife to cut it. The grits came out luke warm and I got warm bread instead of toast....with rock hard butter on the side, which of course was useless.

I would like to come back again and see if the experience is better as I have heard great things about this place. For now...I would call this pretty...
