My husband and son eat lunch here occasionally. They say this location is better than the other. We went late yesterday afternoon, a Saturday, and of course they were busy but not packed. My husband likes this place far more than my son, who prefers the taco trucks. While we were waiting in line talking about what we were going to order my husband's mentioned that each time he's been there in the past and ordered a steak burrito bowl that the steak is never hot enough to melt the cheese but that it is so good that he continues to come back. We waited in line to place our orders and while we waited we saw one of the servers serving food and then cleaning trays that the food comes in and then going and getting more food to serve it - without washing her hands in between. Aside from Covid-19, cleaning dirty trays with a rag and then serving food to patrons without washing your hands in between is just plain disgusting. I didn't figure I would die from it and have eaten in far dirtier places so it was just something I noted. We ordered our food and were giving our numbers and went and sat down and waited. they brought our food and it was gorgeous. I am not a lover of Hispanic foods simply because they're generally very bland and flavorless. However our food arrived and it was gorgeous. I got ground beef nachos with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, black olives, jalapenos and queso and pico. It was gorgeous and I actually was excited about eating it. I picked up the first tortilla with beef and cheese on it and realized the beef was less than room temperature. It had good flavor, except for the fact that it was cooler than room temperature. I really wanted to love this place simply because I like coming over to the beach. So I got my fork out and dug down deep into the bottom middle of my nachos in order to find a place that the meat was at least warm. that was not anywhere in the plate of nachos that I got. Even the queso drizzled over the top was cold as if it had come directly from the refrigerator. All of the meat was room temperature or less. Even the bottom of the tray was cool. This food was nowhere near the required 140° holding temperature. I suspect that because they are so busy that they cannot get their meat out of the freezer and heated to the correct temperature fast enough to serve to customers so they just serve it cold. My son, who is like a human food compactor, mentioned that his burrito was cold and showed me the burrito where the grated cheese that was directly against the steak was completely unmelted after he had eaten more than half of it. He said his was about room temperature or cooler. I wasn't going to pay for a plate that was not edible because of the temperature and may not have even been safe to eat because of the temperature.I took my plate to a person who appeared to be a manager there and explained the problem. But because he spoke very little English I think he struggled to understand the problem. He kept trying to take my plate and put it in a refrigerator somewhere, I think. When I finally got him to understand that the meat was cold and that I wanted my money back he had to run around in circles and wanted to argue about whether we had the receipt or not. We dined in. He could see both my husband and my son sitting at the table eating the meal they had just ordered. I'm unsure if he thought we bought the food somewhere else and brought it into the restaurant or what the deal was.He finally refunded the money to my husband's card. I may go back and try this restaurant again in the off-season and after I have seen a current health inspection. I just didn't feel safe eating meat that was not the proper temperature and then when you add to that the girl cleaning trays and not washing her hands in between, I feel like they might have some health issues at...
Read moreGreat food and fast service. Restaurant was full but it didn't take long for our turn to order. You can sit down as soon as you get your self-service drinks because they give you an order number. They bring the food out to you once its done, which didn't take long either. This place is similar to a Chipotle, as far as ingredients. But the food is way better. One thing I did not like was how you are supposed to know what toppings you want before you see them. In other words, it's not an assembly line, like Chipotle or Subway where you choose your toppings as you move along. The cashier had us tell her all the toppings we wanted from the get-go. Because of this, i forgot to add cheese and guac to my bowl. The menu also has jalapenos on the list of toppings but it doesnt say if they are fresh or pickled. I asked the cashier if they had fresh jalapenos and she said they did so i ordered them for my bowl. I guess my husband assumed they were all fresh so he ordered jalapenos as well. He got pickled ones. They also have pepsi products. Im not a fan of pepsi, especially not with tex-mex food so i just ordered a water. The desserts were a bit on the sweet side. My husband likes flan but he preferred their tres leches over their flan. They do have a full-size bar for those wanting alcoholic beverages and TV's showing different stations for the sports fanatic. There is a roll-up door (similar to a garage door) that seperates the outdoor seating with the indoor seating. It was completely open. It was a bit cool out so it was nice to be sitting at the indoor table next to the roll-up door. The food was great for a good price so I would definitely...
Read moreCame for dinner at 5:30ish and it was packed but luckily we were able to grab a table and then went to order our food. If you didn't know, this is a fast casual dining restaurant, you place your order and take a number and someone brings your food. Unlike Chipotle or Moe's, they don't make the food while you order which was fine because the food comes quickly and they have lots of toppings.
We started with the large queso and I was concerned we would need more chips until the entrees arrived and I saw they came with chips and salsa. The queso was good with a bit of spice and you got a lot of it (hence my concern of not enough chips). My kids got quesadillas, I missed they had a kids menu so we wound up with basically a whole one to take home since they are pretty large and filling. My wife and I both got burritos and they were much better than the aforementioned chains. We both got the al pastor which was juicy and the had pieces of the pineapple mixed in with our other toppings. The burrito is definitely a fully meal, but we wanted to try a taco so we had a Baja style fish taco too. The fish was grilled and was still juicy, though I think I preferred the pork. A decent value for the money plus they have a full bar so you can get a pitcher of margaritas to go with your meal (I cannot comment on how the margaritas are but they seemed popular). I'd definitely come here again, but it's solidly tex-mex...don't expect authentic Mexican food so set expectations...
