El Rinconcito Latino SW 42nd St — Restaurant in Florida

I had to go to Best Vision to get my contacts and felt hungry so I decided to come here for lunch! The place was half empty and as I walked in I was told to seat my self! Some on the menu items had no description... so I figured I wait for the Server to ask her! To be honest , the prices here are over priced but it is Kendall so not really surprised! I was looking at breakfast but as I saw the time , it was over and even though they charge an extra charge to serve you breakfast after 12, it’s really not worth it! When the server came she immediately asked me what I wanted , it had only been like 2 mins , but understandable... I asked her for coffee and told her I needed a few! When she came back I asked her what the “Miami Sandwich “ was she said a bunch of ingredients fast and since I have a hearing problem all I heard was ham! Ohh well, I figured it be good since I honestly didn’t want to keep asking a description about everything on the back of the menu! A few mins later I got a Huge Sandwich! Honestly it looks like a Club Sandwich with Spanish Ham - she asked me if I needed something I said no and she left! The only other time she came to my table was when I called her! Because my cup was empty! And when I did call her she immediately said , I’ll box it for you and bring you the bill! Lady all I want is a coffee refill and some Mayo!!! later after I ate everything and it was a Lot for the Price! ( again wasn’t surprised, Price=Big Amount Food this time) ! There’s room for improvement here in the service and an update...

A new Rinconcito Latino opened on Bird Rd, where Don Fernando's Fish Market once was.

The waitress was nice, but overwhelmed, the food was served lukewarm at best, mostly bland and flavorless, except for the rice which was overly salted to the extreme.

The cook staff is a crew of very young men that you can see in the open kitchen, who seem to be very disorganized and rolled their eyes regularly when dishes were returned (probably b/c they were cold, or the wrong item as happened to us).

TMI: I am writing this between runs to the bathroom, after eating there last night. This will be the last time we visit the place (for health reasons and b/c the food is less than mediocre). It is bad on so many levels, from the cook staff, to the cold food (even soup was cold) to the table arrangement...just bad. We stopped going to this chain years ago due to the fact that we would get sick every time, but figured since it is brand new, it would be okay. NOT!

I would suggest to the owner, if you are going to have an open kitchen, have cooks who are committed and inspired, b/c everyone can see their faces, expressions, and we could hear their negative comments, while throwing dishes around and making crashing banging sounds...sort of passive aggressive disgruntled employee behavior. Taste your own food regularly, maintain sanitary temperatures and stop making people sick.

Obviously, I would NOT recommend this place to anyone, unless you want to spend the next day running back and forth to...

My family and I have been there three this month. Every time we have the same exact opinion: "good food, horrible service". Last time we were there the house special sandwich caught our eye, so we asked the waitress how it was prepared because there is no description on the menu. Her answer was "Well, it's a sandwich" when I replied "well obviously" she had to go ask how it was prepared. By the way, this is their specialty sandwich and she was not new! She never told us the specials that day and we got food envy when we saw other plates being served to the table next to ours that we would have rather ordered. Finally she brought the food and we never saw her again. Whenever we needed water or anything for the table, we had to ask another server. The time before that, different server, similar issue. They brought the food and she never even came to ask if everything was okay and if we needed anything. We ended up not leaving a tip at all (which takes a lot for me to do because I know how hard waitresses work). Mind you, all the servers were huddled up around the TV watching a Spanish novela while the manager did nothing. Good thing Latin America is close by on 107th ave & Coral way. We've been taking our business over there. It's a real shame because we really like the food...
